When you find a really good deal do you stock up? I recently found a great deal on meat and I bought a whole bunch of it and it should last us the whole month. Has anyone else done this and where do you store some of it?

Of course I do! There was a great deal on chicken legs/thighs at a local grocery store right before Memorial Day. A ten pound bag was $3.98. That is 39 cents a pound. I got the limit of 3 bags on two shopping trips. So that was 60 lbs of chicken for less than $24(before taxes of course. Another local store also had cans of tuna on sale for 33 cents per can. I loaded up on them also. I wish I had gotten more but I did not have the extra money to get more. Recently we made a trip to Aldi's and I bought a case of each type of canned vegetables that we use regularly for our home. If I have the $ to stock up during good deals I do that! As far storing items goes. We have a freezer for meats and I have a pressure canner (that I could use if our freezer became too full). We lines our shelves with the canned items as well as closets and under beds if we have to. It never hurts to stock up as long as you keep your stocks rotated.

Yes when we have the cash I stock up too. Our freezer broke and I am still trying to save up for a new one right now, :(. I have just started canning items this year. I started with apple and peach butters, as well as some pickles. Do you have any tips for doing this with things like soup and sauces?

I am a coupon junkie! But when it comes to meat, we get ours from a butcher. We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 teens (so it's like feeding 5 adults) and we buy 1/4 beef every three months. The meat is 100 times better, fresher, taste better, etc.. and the butcher cuts it to order. We pay $2.69/ lb across the board. Try going to buy a roast or t-bone steak or porterhouse for $2.69 / lb. I don't think you'll find it. Anyway, I get pork & poultry on discount or only w/ a coupon. First month we got meat from butcher, we saved almost $200 in grocery bill.

Friends of our raise their own beef and pork as well as the chickens, I am trying to get a new freezer so that we can halves with them on a cow and pig again next year. We where not able to this year and it hurts.

I stock up when I see a deal as well. We have a grocery store here that marks down their meats to something like .99/lb when it's shelf life is almost up. If I happen across a bunch of those items I snag them and put them in my freezer. Otherwise I've been known to stock up on canned goods and noodles when it's a deal & I have the money of course. Wich comes in handy for the times when we do not have alot of cash on hand.

I too stock up on meat though it seems as though everyone is doing so up here and I have to be at the store by at least 7 am to get the good stuff

I've just joined a great coupon site and learning how to make good deals by combining sales with coupons. Some of the folks on the list stockpile and you wouldn't believe the amount of food they have put away! I'll probably do a much smaller scenario of stockpiling for things that I use a lot of. I've been watching meat prices as this one store and doing pretty good and just freeze it.
