Hello there all, I just watched a show on the science channel and it was about 2 extraordinary people. One was a guy that could remember every single specific detail from the time he was around 11 years old. He had such a vast memory that he could give any name or date from any point in his life at any given time. It was amazing! The other guy had massive amnesia and started a new life at the age of 33...that must suck! What do you think about that amazing guy with the memory of 55+ years? I think it was very interesting and puzzling how the human mind could work like that.

That would be amazing to have that kind of recall. Wow! Heck, I'm 58 and I'm lucky to remember a small portion of things from the time I was a kid What is the name of the show? I might want to check it out and see how good it is

The name of the show is "Plastic Fantastic Brain". Today was the first time I saw it, the DVR says it is a 2009 show but it didn't say new so it probably is a special that was re-running. If you have DVR you can probably search it and find it on there somewhere. It just ended at 6:00 P.M. EST but was very interesting while I was eating a snack and relaxing. There are a lot of specials on science channel that are very good but only come on once in awhile, as you probably already know. I am assuming this was one of those interesting specials. lol my memory works in tiny little parts of the best times of my life... the farthest back I can remember is when I was around 6 years old and I got my first bike. Covered in decorative wrap and sitting outside, I remember how I was surrounded by my loved ones and I had that excitement that you can only experience as a child. Slowly they uncovered the most amazing little (purple!!??) bike ever. I loved that thing for years. lol

I'll have to see if I can find it on the net somewhere. I have a few sites that show t.v. shows so it may be on one of them :)

Hi, AJ88XA8! Those are fascinating stories. I'm very happy that all the effort I've put into forgetting a lot of my past has worked. It's in there somewhere, I'm sure, but I really don't want to access it. I wouldn't want to remember everything, since it doesn't leave a lot of time for experiencing NOW!

Yikes! There are things I'd like to forget from 2 - 3 hours ago let alone 55+ years ago. I know what you mean about the way human mind works. This is not exactly the same but I personally have heard this mentally challenged guy once. His care-taker said he has the mental development equivalent to that of a 6 year old. He could barely speak equivalently. Then his care-taker started playing piano & he started singing. He had most amazing singing voice I've ever heard. Somebody even said, "If God had a singing voice, it must be like his!" It's amazing how human mind & body works.

I actually think I have heard of that before, I would feel soo bad for someone if they could do nothing higher than 6 year old level! Just as I feel bad for blind people, especially when they are born blind. It does make me feel better though that they have found something amazing that he can do. Thank you for sharing

There was also another show that came on yesterday that I just remembered (IRONIC) lol. But that one yesterday was also very cool because it was showing a man with a strange disease. I may start a new discussion for that one later...if I "remember" haha.

it's really amazing if it's true. To be honest i don't believe the program. I think seeing is believeing, if i don't see the person in my life i hardly to accept it. Some program said some unusual things then later we found they were not true.

i wish i had abilities like that...i have trouble remembering details from yesterday...lol...unless there significant...ayeah the human mind is a very complex thing...and i think anyone is capable of using thier minds in curtains ways...including vast memory....one thing i know is that everyone choses to use there brains in diffrent ways some better than others..... use your brain wisly~!!!! its your only one...

I have heard that the most developed and advanced minds only use about 10% of their brains. Imagine the possibilites if you could harness just another 5% of the brains power. The human mind is very complex and extraoridinary and I love it!!! Even the bodies design with the skin regrowing and everything else is way cool. I will have to look that up. It sounds neat. :)

Yes it is very cool! But I have also heard of that rumor about using 10% of your brain, and I always loved thinking about it until one day some scientists proved the rumor is merely a myth that someone had made up. I am not sure of it but I think people like the MythBusters or someone had proven it was not true. So we do infact use 100% of our brains, or close to it, but the fact that some people are born with extraordinary powers just amazes me. I also heard that the mental development or process of learning in a human brain slows drastically at the ages of around 18-22, this makes it easier for a child to learn something than an adult. So save Rosetta Stone for the kids! haha.
