What's wrong with Obama?

July 8, 2009 5:01pm CST
Every president gets slagged off to some degree, sometimes more deserved than others. For the past three presidents I've heard people call them the 'worst in history.' That either means that people like to gripe about their current situation, or that each president gets worse than the last. If this is the case than why do we elect them? I am dissappointed with Obama. He ran on a largely undeclared agenda and I disagree with him on all of the issues which he left in the dark during the campaign. For instance, I dislike the way he is trying to socialize America and I believe that it will have decades long detrimental effects for both the United States and for the rest of the world. I am interested to hear what other people think, particularly if it is positive and in conflict of my own views. Thank you.

Mandatory public service - that's all that needs to be said, in my opinion. How any politician can support something as unconstitutional as forcing American citizens into working against their will is beyond me. When I saw that on his platform, I nixed him from my list immediately.

Must have missed that. Still, "ask not what your country can do for you . . ."

On a voluntary basis, I would agree.

There's never been such as thing proposed by Obama as "mandatory" public service. That's a myth that's been helped along by some members here, I'm afraid. Annie

Did you actually miss it when Palin and (Not Really) Joe the (Not Really) Plumber were accusing Obama of being a socialist...lol? I sure disagreed with them then and I still disagree with them now but I really don't see how anyone could be surprised about most of what President Obama is doing or trying to do regarding the economy and health care. He said he wanted to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans and that he wanted to make major changes in our health care system. His energy plan should come as no surprise either. Personally, I find it amusing when people speak of how far to the left Obama is. I'm not thrilled with everything he's done, most specifically in regard to wire-tapping and the telecoms but I'm basically satisfied with his job so far. If anything I wish he'd be considerably more liberal and stop worrying about getting the Republicans in Congress to go along with health care reform because the large majority of Americans who are in favor of it with a public option really don't care which party gets it done, they just want it done! I guess I could answer the question in your title this way: "What's wrong with Obama?" He should move further to the left and stop worrying so much about "bipartisanship"! Do ONE thing Bush did - be willing to spend the political capital he actually DID win! Annie

He only won because he's a good speaker. As a writer, I understood his technique. If he could persuade people to his pont of view, than he had nothing to worry about. If people believe the swill he fed them, they would become his followers. They are not supporters, all them Obama-lovers should make it a religion, honestly. He won because he became a 'celebrity'. He promised a bunch of swill and no one listened to the 'other side' when we tried to use common sense! The worst president, Obama, staight up. He's more of the "Put on a blindfolr, I'm a Dictarian!" sort of person.

Nice discussion. I'm not sure when our last 'good' president was. Probably it was before Wilson in the early 1900's. FDR made a huge mess and no Republican picked up and reversed his garbage. Obama is doing the same thing again. I really hope 2010 and 2012 will strip most of the incumbents out. The Republicans and Democrats have been tossing power back and forth for more than a century. There is really little difference between them, none of them are really acting in our best interest. Just look at our ever growing deficit, both parties contribute to it. Things would be better if we had elected Ron Paul.

Too many americans have become obescesed with the celeberty status of someone and the media feeds on it. Not enough people listen to substance anymore.

If only everything in life was this is easy. to complain well, let me rephrase that to have an opinion about someone. i think obama just didn't quite get the full blown picture. i don't think he understood. although better than what we had, that doesn't mean that hes good for us too. There just wasnt that much to choose from when it came right down to it.
