Twilight series "the Host": Science fiction for those who don't like Sci-Fi?

I just ran into The Host by Stephanie Myers in BJ's today (warehouse club) while browsing their book section and I gotta tell you that book really appealed to me immensely!! I only read the inside flaps and I am still excited about it. I have never read any books of the Twilight series because my library has had a never-ending waiting list and I wasn't sure enough to buy any because I just assumed it only appealed to romance lovers even though I've heard the raves about it. Still, I didn't know whether to start with the latest book or the first and afraid one book will blow it for me, crazy thing is Dracula is my all-time favorite book but never believed Twilight could measure up . Have you read The Host? Will reading The Host first spoil it for me if I want to read the rest? Im actually the kind of person who reads magazines from back to front but maybe that doesn't work for books.
