Should Sanction Against Zimbabwe be Lifted?

Zimbabwe has started sending envoys to other African countries appealing to them to prevail on the western world to lift economic sanction against the country. Do you think the time is ripe for the sanction to be lifted?

Human rights violations still continue unabated under a government still infected with Robert Mugabe. In the news currently is the illegal mining activity being overseen by the military there and the horrific treatment of civilians. After the election debacle, lifting sanctions would only legitmatize Mugabe's illegal strangehold on power in that country. Although I realize that the people of Zimbabwe are suffering greatly with the inflation, food shortages and the general strife and violence, it would be wrong to completely lift sanctions before the country has made significant steps towards peace and freedom. Before sanctions are lifted, there must be more done by the unity government to improve human rights in Zimbabwe. The media is still not free, farms are still being seized, there is still violence against political activists and democracy has not yet been shown to be practiced in reality. I truly wish for the people of Zimbabwe that they will one day live in a free and safe country with a democratically elected government and be able to use the bountiful resources of that land to support a population that enjoys peace and freedom.

Robert Mugabe, the strong man of Zimbabwe, seems to have gone underground allowing Morgan Tsvangirai to take the centre stage. I agree that the situation in Zimbabwe is yet to be normal and if the world can do anything for the sake of suffering Zimbabweans that should be okay. It's annoying that African Union has failed woefully to resolve the Zimbabwean crisis.

Of course, sanctions against any nation ought to be lifted! Sanctions are nothing but terroristic tactics against societies! And the most terrible thing about sanctions is that the common people are often the ones who suffer. I do not believe that there is any just reason to put sanction against any nation!
