Hello! It's summer and many of us go on a vacation somewhere exciting. I just came back from a week long vacation from Colorado. My husband and I spent 3 days at the Rocky Mountain National Park. We did a lot of hiking and sight seeing at the national park. We got to see the beautiful Sprague and Bear Lakes. I also got to see mountains still capped with snow. It was awesome. I loved it because the temperatures were in the 80's while in Texas where I live are in the 100's. The last 3 days we camped out at a KOA campground in Cotopaxi, Colorado near the Royal Gorge and Arkansas River. We went whitewater rafting for the first time. The water was in the high 50's but it was refreshing. The rapids were awesome and I would definitely do it again. At the end of our trip we stopped by the Royal Gorge. We walked across the world's highest suspension bridge. Over 1,000 feet above the bottom of the Royal Gorge. What have you done this past summer? Gone to any exciting vacation spots that are memorable to you?

My summer vacations were in January. In my country, Chile, we are now in mid Winter. In January, some friends of mine invited me for a 3 week sailing trip from Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, to Colón, Panamá. The idea was to see the San Blas Islands (Kunayala- the land of the Kunas). It was incredible and it felt as if history had gone back to before Columbus came. The Kuna indians have their own language and their houses are much as I had imagined when I read about Macondo in "100 years of solitude" by colombian Nobel prize writer García Márquez. They live in huts made from wood and leaves they take from palm trees. They also trade or sell coconuts and bananas that are taken to Colombia and are given in exchange some modern life food. The women still like to use their native dresses but the man have adopted occidental garments. It was a peek into Paradise.

Thanks for sharing your vacation experience. I forget that the southern hemisphere has opposite seasons as the northern hemisphere. Sounds like fun sailing and visiting another culture.

Galveston sounds relaxing and cool! I love going to the beach whenever possible. We go to Port Aransas; near Corpus Christi. Being around the beach is refreshing and not as hot. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

In January it was winter at home but summer in South Africa which was where I went to. The air temperature was a pleasant 25 degrees most days. It was sunny and that made me feel really happy. My toddler son and I explored beautiful Cape Town and the incredibly picturesque Garden Route. I loved seeing the penguins at Boulder's Beach, selecting crystals at Scratch Patch, lazing around at Camp Cove and going on safari for two and a half hours. I hope to visit Canada next summer.

I haven't gone out to any place yet. But, I am looking forward to having some time at the Banff National Park on the Canadian Rockies. That would be very similar to the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado you have been to. Here in Banff, the Lake Louise and the Fairmont Hotels are just so beautiful, a nice place to enjoy the scenic beauty and relax.
