I have a friend whose real name is Marichellie ("Mari" came from Mario, his father's name and "Shiela" is the name of her mother). But her older sister and her friends call her Cherry as her monicker. She likes being called so because it is sweet to her ears and cute to hear. Cherry is also the name of her mother's favorite fruit when she was conceiving to her. She likes being called as that. It makes her feel sweet and comforting. How about you?

Ah, so what you mean is that names of fruits are for young people only. Commonly, yeah but some fruits like what we call in Tagalog, Rambutan, is tagged to an old man, and Pineapple or "Pining" is our old neighbor's name. Seems funny but hearing their names as such really makes me laugh, lol!

I'd like to imagine what it would be like to call someone Granny Strawberry or Granny Cherry. Sounds quite good, don't you think? :D

I think it is a display of real affection if someone is called by a name that is also a sweet fruit. I know two people who are called "Apple" by those close to them. And they are both very sweet persons and quite fond of food--whether cooking and eating.

Even flower, jewel and virtue names are mostly given to females, too--Daisy, Rose, Lily, etc. Women are such sweet things to merit being called sweet names. :D

The daughter of Rocker Chris Martin and actor G. Paltrow was named Apple.... It is a nice name. We can name a kid after a fruit but it will become embarrassing for that kid.So it can be named as a pet name. Mango and grape are a nice names...

Yeah. Giving a fruit name as a child's real name is quite embarassing. Mango name can be given to a boy. There is a famous radio deejay in the phils whose name is Mango.
