Many of us resemble our parents both the parents or mother or father. Who do resemble most with, is it your mother, father, paternal grand parents or maternal grand parents? Which physical features and gestures of yours resemble them and which of the habits you find are similar with your parents/grand parents? Do you also find that some of your features are clearly visible in your children, which one are those and which one of your child resembles you? Please share your thoughts on it. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Deepak! Nice discussion topic. It is said that I resemble my paternal grandfather in a good number of ways. He was a six footer with long limbs and I am tall for a woman by our Indian standards. Moreover, I resemble him by bone structure and features too . My eyes, nose, mouth and chin all look like him. My son looks a lot like my husband and a little like me. But, many of his inherent characteristics are like mine. Apparently there is a lot of my father in me[ resourcefulness, creativity and boldness] though I do have some qualities of my mother[ emotional and reactive]. I guess we all would be a mix when it comes to characteristics /qualities or behavioral patterns, because though some of them do tend to be genetic many are also acquired and consciously and unconsciously emulated upon by us. One strange thing though--my sister’s daughter resembles me in many ways and once when I found that she had a peculiar whim [as regards some food habit] I was most surprised. She or I never knew this and she was not in close contact with me to have acquired this out of habit. This whimsical like had just been genetically transmitted and my mother was very surprised when I made a similar remark like hers. She said’’ My! Your niece makes exactly the same face and statement’.

She looks a lot like me. In fact you won't believe it, once my childhood friend's sister saw her in Chennai and approached her and asked her if she was Kala's relative. That is rare isn't it?

Hi Kala! Thanks for appreciating the discussion. Oh! Great! It is cool that you resemble your paternal grandfather and father too and you are tall, strong, respircefi;. creatove amd bold like them. You are right, we inherit qualities of both of mother and father, however, the percentage may vary. Daughters are considered lucky, if they resemble their father, I do not know how much of this is true. There are few persons, who are entirely different from their mothers and fathers. It is interesting to know that yuor niece has similar habits and characterstics like you. She must have inherited those characterstics from her grandmother, who was your 'mother'. I feel that it must be exciting to see her behave like you. Many Thanks again for enriching the post and sharing all about you.

Hi Chaitra! So you are a mixture of your father and mother. It is good to know that you have characterstics of both of them. How about your habits and nature, have you adopted it from your mother? Thanks for joining us.

When i was younger people used to tell me that i look like my father, that i am a female version of him. But now that i am an adult and have my own girls, when i look at our pictures i see my mom in me. Then, people say that my youngest looks just like me. I know that i have acquired most of my mother's habits and i am grateful for that. I wish that my girls do acquire some of these habits too.

Hi, is strange, but i don t have anything from my mother, maybe just gender, i am my father copy, his face, his character, even his gesture. Is strange again that i never were in good relations with my mother too, we are so different, sometimes i ask myself if she is really my mother. Any way, my father was my idol, so, seems that if i like him i like myself too.

Well, in a lot of ways I think I resemble my real dad some, but since I never really knew him I have to a lot of times go on memories. But at the same time everyone says I look exactly like my Grandmother did when she was around my age. I have seen pictures of her though that it does look like me for sure.

hmmm...at first glance, I resemble my father....but if you check my features....I've inherited my eyebrows and lips from my mother, nose and colour from my father. My body structure is mainly inherited from my dad's side of the family. So, physically I resemble both my parents. But as far as qualities go, I'm more like my father except that I've got my mother's temper..lol Now, my kids....my older one is exactly like me (physically as well as personality) and my younger one is a carbon copy of my husband (physically except that he is fairer than my husband as well as qualities) So, what about you??? Who do you resemble and who do your kids resemble?

Hi Deepak, Among the four siblings am different. I think I look like my father (more). My younger sister has some similarities with me but elder sister is totally different. She looks like our mother. Regarding our kids, I am confused, because different people have different opinion, some saying elder son looks like me and I think those people are right. Here we have to consider others opinion also because I think they can give a more justifiable opinion than us. Regarding habit, both got their father’s habits mostly.

Hi Sree! So you look alike your father and your characterstics are similar to him. It is said that those girls who resemble their fathers are considered lucky. I think you feel a sense of belonging to your father. And your elder son resembling you is also a good sign because boys who are copy of their mothers are considered fortunate. Thanks for sharing and telling all about your family. dpk PS - I read the following comment on mylot home page - "This was the highest rated discussion on 10th July. (feels great to know!!!)

I follow mostly my father, whom I miss so much, though he left us several decades. My face is so called undetectable, common withou little special features, but in my college days, I saw someone who is so much alike with me. We both had such impression, and became a bit more related with each other.

Interesting topic Deepak!! :-) You are such a great person, that you remind me today, of those cherish moments I shared in my childhood with my parents. Those were the days!! I have never thought that one day I will think so intensely about this topic that whom I resemble, my father or mother?? Just thinking!! You know you won't believe this but this is true that my taste and habits is entirely different with my parents. My habits are entirely different. I don't believe in false tradition and culture where we are debarred to think differently and openly. I am a open mind person. I accept things very easily but I felt that my parents hesitate to accept things and the facts. But at last they feel that they were wrong because today things are changing. I think parents have to accept everything that which is going on in today's modern world. Yes, they are slow but I am sure they will understand gradually. May be because of my friend circle and different environment, my thinking seems little positive. Anyways, thanks for this interesting topic. Take care!! Aira

Hi Aira! Thanks for appreciating the discussion. Your response tells that you do not have similar characterstics, as your parents have. I agree with you that most of us do not accept some ideas and thoughts of our parents, may be due to generation gap. However, we do aquire some of their qualities in us either good or bad. Please ponder and think about those qualities and virtues, which you might have acquired from either your mother or father. Many Thanks again for enriching the post and sharing all about you.

I resamble most to my father except the color of my eyes (they are blue). I know that genetics say that your characteristics are all on your dna that is a mixture of your father's and your mother's but nobody in my family, as far as i search as eyes like that. I usualy forget things like my mother does but I have a great intellegence like my father! lol, i'm too cocky!

Hello there.. i don't really know who i resemble most..coz when i go out with my mom, ppl said that i look like her..i think i've got her eyebrows, eyes and lips...but when i go out with my dad, ppl said that i look like him..i think i got his nose and face shape..but when i go out with them, ppl said is this really your daughter?..coz i dont look like a Filipino(I'm from Philippines)..its a bit pain why i looked like an Indian..sometimes, they thought that im a sister of my mom since im taller than her..so, i think, it depends on the mixture of me by my parents..

My stubborn like my mom. And more to myself like my dad. My daigther who is 10 months old looks just like me everything. As far as her personality . I'll found out more when she gets older.
