What would you say?

To a pregnant woman that was smoking, but not because she couldn't give up, she is smoking 20 a day so she can have a smaller baby!!!! What the hell can you say to a woman like that? How this works is, the cigarettes restrict circulation and prevent the baby from getting the nutrients that it needs, she is DELIBERATELY starving her baby of nutrients1 If she did that when her baby was alive, it would be taken away from her. What would you say to someone who did that?

Oh my! She's so insane and so cruel to her baby inside her womb. I maybe going to tell her to stop smoking, calmly, explain to her properly the bad effect of smoking to the baby, if she doesn't stop she created a problem and burden for a lifetime on her and the baby. Cause smoking really destroy baby's health!

If she's not going to listen then, i give up! that's her life, pitty for the baby. Just pray the bay will be fine. She doesn't realize what happened to the baby that's her responsibility and burden as a mother. God Bless Baby!

Ive had 8 children and they are all grown..I smoke 2 packs or more a day since i was 13, about 40 years now. and my smoking did not effect their weight or anything else. Back when i had my children you were even allowed to smoke in the hospital rooms. Just because she smokes does not mean that it will effect her child.

i'd say that smoking can also cause birth defects and increase chances of childhood cancer. wow... never heard about women doing it deliberately... usually mothers would sacrifice everything for their children...

I smoked through both my pregnancies. I wanted to quit, my midwife recommended not due to being in second trimester before I found out about being pregnant. ( undue stress from detox to the fetus) So no I don't think DELIBERATLY smoking so you have a small baby is smart. That is selfish and wrong. I wouldn't smoke through another pregnancy. I could understand medical advice saing don't do it, I can understand even a habit you can't kick.. but not cutting back ( Which is what I did)

I would tell them are your out of your @$%!$% mind? Why would you want to harm your baby like that. You shouldn't have gotten pregnant if you didn't want your baby. But if your having the kid WHY! would you do that. People like that sicken me. People like that should be shown no mercy and just be thrown into a little jail cell and suffer. You must be a terrible person to do something like that.

She Is Mentally not Doing well, She Needs to visit a Doc For Mental illness. You Shouldnt Be Allowed to Have a baby till you are mature enough to handle it ... There should Be a Law Enacted to that effect . This is Insane .. Till today I Had a feeling that women are better human beings ......... LoL .......... Keep Lotting .....

I would probably tell her it may or may not work. My mother smoked while pregnant with me and I came out a month early and fat and heavy

I would talk to her family, the father of the baby (if he's still involved) and whatever social services available that could or would get involved. What she's doing could interfere not only with size, but with brain development. It's a sad situation, it seems that some one could get involved to ensure proper habits and nutrition while she is expecting.

You should tell her the danger in this way. If she knew that one of the bad results is a mentally retarded children, and she had to take care of him or her for the remaining of all her rest life. She would quit from the habit.

OMG! I would let her know that I was praying for her; especially her child! I would let her know that God knows her heart and she will be reimbursed for her evil deed. Then I would explain to her how the Lord made it so that the baby can take from her body nutrients that is needed. I pray that child comes out - not only healthy and strong - but wise and diligent in serving God. I know this will work out for the good of the child and hopefully the mother because prayer changes things. It would be worth a try to inform the dad; if you know him...hopefully he cares.

What can you say to a woman like that? Nothing. If she wanted to stop, she would have done so earlier, but she did not. So obviously she is not thinking of her baby. What I would do though is get a printout of what all the smoking is doing to her baby and get it printed in bold with colours and graphics too. Maybe THAT will scare the heck out of her and get her to quit!
