Micheal Jackson's Casket

United States

I was watching the memorial service on tv and saw the beatiful casket Micheal Jackson was in. I can't imagine a solid gold casket being buried in the ground. It was so pretty with all the flowers on top. Micheal had alot of supportors. I loved his music and he will be greatly missed. He danced great and was the greatest entertainer that ever lived. I know I would not have paid for a casket that expensive. I just can't imaged paying that much for casket. When he died he definetly went out in style. I understand that people die but the point in buying something so exspesive to be buried in is kind of crazy. I mean your dead you can't enjoy being dead or being in the casket for that matter. I really don't get it.

When they made his last known will public, MJ didn't have anything specified on how he wanted to be buried so I'm going with this is what his family wanted for him. They may have made this choice based on the extravagant life style he lived. Cheers, Stan

The French philosopher Rabelais once said "Half the world does not know how the other half lives." Today though, we have a better understanding of our status in life. The Jacksons came from a humble beginning. More or less they would know what money represent. They could afford the golden casket. Let them be. After all, MJ had given so much to the world.

I don't get it either. Michael seemed like a humble guy to me, and he probably would have preferred the gold be put towards feeding the hungry. When I die I wouldn't mind being buried in a "Chock Full Of Nuts" coffee can, like on that movie, "The Bucket List". That movie was great. Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson were awesome in it. Thanks for the interesting discussion.

I don't think he was very humble. Generous with his money to chairity and to the stores he likes to shop from. He walked thru a store w/ Martin Brashier (sp?) and just pointed and items w/o even looking at them carefully and spent $6million within ONE STORE & it was a decor.

I think that a casket made of gold is a huge waste of money and resources. Nobody will ever see it or appreciate it underground. Furthermore, it's not earth-friendly. It won't decompose and will continue taking up space underground just like a landfill. That's true of most caskets, not just solid gold ones. Anyway, the money spent on that casket probably could have fed some hungry people or given some kids a good education.

Michael Jackson's casket is the same type of casket the late James Brown was buried in. I believe the casket cost $25k. It was made of brass with a 14 karat gold plated overlay .The inside of the casket was lined with blue velvet.I also couldn't imagine being buried in something that expensive & gawdy also, but this is MJ were talking about here, the king of pop, it's natural to assume that he would have a pimped out casket. We also have to consider that his family picked out his casket. Maybe Michael would of picked out a casket that would of matched his sequin glove instead.

well, you can only bury Jackson once in Life Time so, if there gonna make it expensive and errr..you said "gold"? why not? these people can afford it and it simply gives them importance to our Idol and King of the Pop. and this is not some ordinary guy, he's a celebrity, so no problem about it.,it's their money, their problem.

I don't understand it either. I would rather the money go to my kids. Then wasting it on a casket that will be hidden. I can't believe he is not buried in his final resting spot yet. It seems a few people in the Jackson family want him buried at Neverlands to make it something like Graceland where Elvis is buried. The other family members want him buried at a cemetery. He is now inside Berry Gordy's Moselium till they decide what to do. Crazy stuff going on even with him passing away. The drama continues.

Hi tuckersheri :) In terms of practicality, yes it is too expensive, especially when a gold one is just buried on the ground. But let's take into consideration the perspective of the people really close to MJ. The casket may show or symbolize a lot of things, that they chose to buy that expensive casket for him. Maybe, they think that MJ is too special and is worth laying down in a very beautiful casket, before he physically leaves the world. It's the symbolism of letting go of the one you love, and being sure that his body is very well protected. MJ is too special to be buried on a normal casket I guess. Let's respect the decision of the people close to him. But I agree, well for normal people, that golden casket is really impractical.
