Ever been offered more money for something you know you can't do or you know is

wrong? Often, I get jobs where, "You only have to do ___________." Then you get there and you have to do more than that and often it's out of my physical limits. For instance: "My father/mother just needs someone to steady him/her." To me, that means, the person can get up on his or her own and then gets a little off-balance when walking, so if you help the person while walking, the person won't fall over. The person probably uses a walker, but walkers can be too wide or not work very well in certain situations. Then you get to the job and the family or the person you're helping actually wants you to lift or stand the person up. I have a bad back and I can't do that. People think I'm lying, making excuses, not offered enough money, I don't know what. But sometimes I'm offered more money to lift the person. If they had told me, I could have saved us all a lot of time. I can't lift another person. I can lift 25 lbs. That's all the Drs. cleared me for. So unless the person is a lightweight child, I can't do it. Offering me more money doesn't help my body, esp. my spine, lift more weight. So in the future, I will say, "No lifting above 25 lbs." Even if the topic/job has (or seems to have)absolutely nothing to do with lifting.

Does this have anything to do with your new job helping the elderly couple? There are some things in life that no amount of money can entice -- make that many things, actually. When I say no, I mean it and it is usually because I am just not interested.

Actually, it has to do with many jobs I've had in the past and it happened to come up again. I have said what I can and can not lift when lifting was in the description, but more and more it is left out of the descriptions. Even temp services complains about this, they would send me out and I would get to a job and find out I had to lift 50 lbs all day long. I would call and they would say, "That was NOT in the job descriptiong they sent us." So I'm not the only one having problems with this.

Very true, I had to bring a job description to my Doctor of my duties from one of my jobs one time. I read it and laughed. So they had to rewrite it to reflect what I really did. My job checked what I could do and "X"ed what I couldn't, then sent me to physical therapy to be able to do the rest.

I have found that job descriptions and on the job activities seldom match.

Hi, Edge! That's really a good idea. Some people will wring every bit they can out of whomever works for them, and others probably don't even think that carefully. Limits have to be set, and your time is too valuable to waste.

Apparently limits do have to be set. I thought we had a mutual agreement/understanding to start, but apparently not. Yes, time is too valuable to waste. Thanks and take care.

I don't blame you for not lifting over 25 lbs. Your back is important to you and more important than any job. People who do this are just trying to take advantage of a good person who will show up and work. Hiding the details until you arrive on the job doesn't seem right at all. I am guessing they have trouble finding people who will lift or even show up for work.

They keep asking me if I'm coming tomorrow, so I guess you're right. Yes, I really would like to get through this life without having a bunch of operations.

When they tell me about the job, I like it. When I arrive, they change the job. It's not that I don't like the job. It's that I can only do certain things.
