Its an anticlimax in ashes and great game of cricket in the first match of ashes series between england and australia. After a massive total it was expected they can beat england by an innings. But in the end it was anderson, panesar and collingwood saved the game. Almost a surprise.

Wow what a match! Class. 90 odd for 5 wickets before lunch, and english players especially Collingwood played brilliantly. But towards the end Hauritz was appealing even for the one that came straight off the middle of the bat. Anyways England deserved to win, but they need to really look forward in improving for the next match and win that, to take a 1-0 lead. I really hope that they win this series. What a cliff hanger. Who said that test cricket is boring?

Can't believe you put England deserved to win. Really hope you meant Australia.

No. Aussies didn't deserve to win. If they cant take 5 tailend wickets mate, then why are they playing cricket? To argue, you can say that the tail batted well. And the disgraceful appealing by aussies, well even for the one that came from the middle of the bat! They deserved to lose this.

The Aussies may not have bowled well enough to win, but they were the only team that looked like winning!! England were never in the game after the first day!!!

What a wonderful match. It reminds me of the match in 2005 when Brett Lee and Kasprowickz almost won the test for Oz but for Jones and Flintoff. This is the right confidence booster for England.I am sure Ponting will come under some criticism for not able to bowl them out.

That is true exactly. Ponting would definitely be put under criticism for not bowling them out. But that is not his fault actually. Anything can happen in a test match and all the credit goes to the trio- Collingwood, Anderson and Panesar. I couldnt quite believe that it happened actually and Panesar who is widely regarded as Batting bunny showed enough courage to deny the Aussies a victory. Well played guys. Keep the momentum going:-)

I have to say I wouldn't have put any money on Panesar being able to see out the overs. Anderson is a decent enough batsman when it comes to hanging around, think its fifty tests now without a duck. Think Ponting msised a trick by not bowling his fastest bowlers, I am sure that Panesar is a lot more comfortable picking and playing the spinners than the quickies.

Yeh it was a good gripping match till the end. I though Australia would have finished it off just before tea, ecpecially considering that England were 5 down for less than hundred at one stage. But I must say England did some very good acting and pretending to waste time (the physio and 12th man and all that stuff). Ponting was burning, because of all that. Anyway lets hope for another gripping contest at Lords, but this time hope we get a result. That will really get the Ashes battle going.

this game was realy greatd game of cricket.. After playing 44 balls by last wicket.. ENgland saved the test.. That's briliant effort from collingwood, anderson and panesar.. Australia was dominant in complete test but the last session only belongs to england.. they performed and england finaly saved the 1 st ashes test...

I could not believe it when I read online this morning that England had saved the test! Whe I went to bed at the lunch break, I thought it was only a matter of time before the Aussies wrapped it up! They should not have drawn, they were in a great position to win by an innings, but I must give credit to England for showing some guts for the first time in the match! I can't wait for the 2nd test now!!!
