Hi everybody! I'm looking for a recipe to do a rainbow cake for a friend of mine :) I need something like that "http://www.omnomicon.com/rainbowcake" but I don't like this recipe because looks too "artificial" to me T_T it would be great to have a basic recipe for a cake and than add food colouring... but i don't know a simple basic recipe... I don't want to use a lot of eggs or butter... can you help me? Have you aver prepared a rainbow cake? *_*

Ive made one before where i just got plain white cake mix and make the mix according to the box, then seperated the mixture in to 6 different containers , mixed in the food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple), then put all into a cake pan, then i took a tooth pick and kind of swirled the colors together , then i baked it. And do the same with the icing, seperate into 6 containers add food coloring and design as you wish!!

Wow! You're right! I didn't thought about that! It's a great solution, thank you sooooo much! Do you have a website? I'm asking it because I'm going to do the cake tomorrow and probably I will write the recipe on my blog (a very little blog :P) and i would like to link to you (you're my source :D). If not can i link to your MyLot profile?... Or what you want (if you want, obviously!) I have one last question T_T I'm going to use jelly colouring and I have red, green and blu (RGB :D)... I choose them to mix them up and create other colours. Is it possible to do it? Or have I to buy them? Thank you for your precious informations!

The easiest way to do it would be to start with a cake mix. White or yellow would work. Then divide it into different containers and add coloring to it that way. Making each one a different color. When I was in middle school I made some rainbow cupcakes like that. Some were layered, I just poured in a little red, a little blue, a little yellow and then a little green. If you don't stir it, the colors won't mix together. I tried to do some swirled, but cupcakes are a little small for that. In a cake pan, swirling would work better. ALong the same lines of a marble cake. Put in one color, add a little of another, use a knife to swirl it around a bit.

Thank you Wiccania :) I already did it, but I'm going to do cupcakes and muffins in the same way like you said :) I know they're too small but i'm going to try anyway :D or maybe i'm going to color'em just with one color and use another to do the glaze :) you know, such as pink muffin-yellow glaze or blue muffin-red glaze XD WOOW! SOUNDS CREEPY XD i think they'll be great *_* thank you for your advice :)
