I was introduced to the internet when I was in high school. I can't remember if it was 9th or 19th grade, but it was AOL and at my friend's house & I never really got email, just chatting with people. I got my very first email account when I was 18... it was practically immediately following the birth of my first daughter. I've had email ever since. My first daughter is NOW 9 and plays online a LOT on club penguin and webkinz and disney and nick and icarly and some mitzy monster or something like that. There may be 1 or 2 that I'm missing off the top of my head but she was telling me how her best friend (who told her about the mitzy monster one and club penguin one) had her own email address. I'm already putting my foot down by saying 9 is WAY too young for an email address. But, she'll be entering the 4th grade in the fall and EVENTUALLY she'll need an email (which I will make sure I check before SHE does LOL to get rid of all the spam) but what age is appropriate for a kid to have email?

The first email I received was a cool memory. I got spammed! I created a email id to sign up in a game downloading site while I was in my 8th grade. They sent tons of email with all sorts of rubbish! Thank God I mentioned my proper age during signup, it could have been a really worse thing otherwise!

My first mail i guess i was about 18 year old!!So i don't know which is the better age for mails as regards a child as well..i think quickly..i think even when they have 13 years old it would b eok..also because mails are really cheap and so also not dangerous i guess ...

Hey, Well I actually got my first email address when I was about 12 years old, my dad actually showed me how, because he was actually smarter than me when it came to computers back then, I was only 12 then anyway, but now I show him what to do lol. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

AOL used to have it where you could set up an email address under yours and put restrictions on it. I believe you would be able to check it from the main account and could turn it on and off. I agree with you nine is to young. Sometime around high school would be better. I don't use age but marturity. When she shows you she's ready will be the time.

hello punkincat! I don't have AOL anymore so that kind of email wouldn't work. I know as soon as I allow her to have an email I will have all passwords though LOL Happy MyLotting!

I got my first email when I was 14. I had to search something for the school, my first year to high school :) I convinced my parents to have internet to do my homeworks by myself and not asking to my friends :D so I had my first email account... it was hotmail... Now, after 7 years, I'm proud of my gmail account :D

hi zizzazzula, thanks for your response. I think that now, even if she needs the internet to research something, she doesn't need an email for it...
