I was supposed to go watch this last weekend with some friends who read the book. Well last minute I opted not to go because I knew I would cry and I am glad I didn't. Not only would I have cried but got angry. Without giving anything away...well maybe a little....but don't you get angry when the movie mucks it all up? Meaning where they changed things around....not like in the books? And it makes me angry because the story in itself was really good....why would Hollywood do that!!!! Numbskulls....I was geared up to see it also...eventually. now not so much.... How about you all?

Just from watching the trailers I knew this was going to be a big tearjerker movie. And, for this reason, I knew that i would wait until I could rent it and watch it in the comfort of my own home with a big box of tissue and turn into a blubbery mess. As for the muck up you were referring to, I haven't read the book, but I have read an article on what was changed. It doesn't surprise me anymore when Hollywood changes something to fit what they think will sell better. I don't know which ending I would be happier with, to be honest, they would both leave me huddled with soggy swollen eyes. but, it seems that people who have read the book, are quite upset with the changes.

Just from watching the trailers, this movie did not look good to me and I definitely would not pay any good money to see it. Now, maybe by the time a few people watch it and tell me about it, I might change my mind. Maybe it is more to it than I know. But if I do see it, it will definitely be a rental.

I won't go see any movie with Cameron Diaz in it, I think she is a terrible actress. They changed the ending of the movie because people who read the book didn't like it and leave it up to Hokiewood to mess up anything they get a script for. Most of Jodi Picoult's books have some sort of medical theme to them so wait for the next one and hope for the best.

I went to see it and liked it a lot. I also cried a lot! I had no idea about how the book ended differently until I read this discussion and then I did a search and found out. I really can't quite figure out why they made such a major change. Annie

It kind of baffles me too. Because no matter what it was not going to have a happy ending, but in the book version not only was there a type of closure in a way but also the fact that it would make a person think...because in the book it covered so many things that happen in real life....a child who becomes ill and a family focused on her survival, a son who is lost in the mix acting ou is dangerous ways, a mother who is just lost within the job of keeping her daughter alive, and a little girl who was not asked to be born, but has to fight for her rights, or option to have rights, of choice. It's deeply moving as a narrative...and I say BOO to Hollywood who would think they could not create a script and find actors that could potray such art. Yeah, alot of us readers were upset by the film version LOL
