Do you lie to homeless people when they ask you for money?

Homelessness is a terrible event that can literally happen to anyone. People basically try to make the best that they can while sleeping outside, in all of the ailments of the weather, etc... When people used to ask me for money, I used to reject them automatically. Mostly because many of them either smelled terribly bad or reeked of alcohol. I have a very sensitive nose and I didn't like the fact that I would make a face when those individuals were come near me. Now that I have learned to grin and bare the foul odor, I do realize that I don't have to be subjected to tat sort of odor for a extended period of time. I don't carry very much cash around with me nowadays, so basically if I'm asked and I have money on me, based upon the situation, I may give the person asking some money. How do you handle peddlers?

I lie to 'homeless' people because there are so many people trying to scam money, who really aren't homeless, stranded and whatever other excuses they decide to give to get money off you.
I'll give money to people who are entertaining though, if someone just asks for change I walk past or say I don't have any.
I have given people money for bus fare before and then heard them asking someone else, even though I know I gave them more than enough for the fare.
I also bought a big issue once because the man asked me how I was and had a bit of a conversation and politely asked if I'd like one, instead of just saying "Big Issue" and waving it in my face and I'd not seen him before, the more I see the same people begging the more I think they aren't trying to get help, just handouts.
The man I bought the big issue off, I saw for another few months, so I think he probably did get help.
