Prince George's County, Maryland Swat team apparently raided Berwyn Heights mayor Cheye Calvo, pictured below, house and shot the Calvo's black Labrador retrievers. The Calvos have filled a lawsuit charging the Prince George's County sheriff department with enter innocent people’s houses without a proper warrant and “randomly and routinely” kill family pets. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/Berwyn-Heights-mayor-sues-Prince-Georges-County-over-SWAT-raid-that-killed-his-dogs-48810647.html My point for bringing up this is if a police agency could get the mayors house wrong could not they have mistaken your house for someone else's house. What would you do if SWAT one day busted down your door, only to find out they had the wrong house?

I believe we had something similar happen here only it was a bounty hunter and they killed a person, not a dog. I'd have to see if I could find it. Been years ago. Taking a quick look I could only find a couple who were held at gunpoint in their own house in St. Louis when bounty hunters entered the wrong house. I'm sure this stuff has probably happened more times than we know about.

I have heard of bounty hunter arresting the wrong person. I have not exactly heard of what you speak of but I believe it.

Well, policeman are indeed allowed to get into the suspect's house with the warranty necessarily but if house they broke into is not the one on the warranty, they could be alleged.

It's called a WARRANT, not warranty. warranties are for products that you buy and want added insurance over. Warrants are for legal police entries into privately owned homes and properties. I'd love to see the original warrant in this case, very rarely are they given to the suspected criminals for any length of time (to actually READ the entire writ).

Aim low. They wear body armor. This is a further example of our coming police state. Routine matters are now being handle by tactical squad in more cases all of the time, and as demonstrated by this story... mistakes are being made and the violence against citizens, pets, and property are increasing. The time has come to start shooting back.

I think that happens far more often than most people realize. I'm sure it's not usually a SWAT Team busting into the house and killing family pets, but I have known people who have been harrassed by police that went to their house by mistake. I had a friend who was a single mom. She was woken at 3am by police pounding on her door. She was afraid someone was trying to break into her home and was about to call the police before she realized that's who was banging on her door. When she answered the officer rudely told her that their had been several complaints about the loud music from her home. Here she was, barely awake, wearing a night gown in a house with all the lights out, and this moron still didn't realize he had the wrong house. That's not even getting into the fact that when she opened the door she could hear the music from a house a block away. Now people in that situation may file a complaint, but they don't sue and it never reaches the media. In situations as serious as this one with the SWAT team, I think those raids are more likely to happen in low income areas where people don't have the resources to sue the police or get media attention.

That has to be a dumb cop. Really if you do not hear any music coming from the house, you probably are at the wrong house. If it had not been at Mayor I probably would not have not seen this story.

Hi, We don't have SWAT in the UK but do have similar groups within the Police. Reading the article, I would say this is a classic case of human error in getting the wrong house or was it?? I know nothing about this Mayor & his family & it may just be an innocent mistake by someone Police Officer somewhere but did it cross your mind they actually had good reason to raid his house? And just didn't turn anything up! The shooting of the dogs would more than likely be standard procedure, as all dogs will protect their homes and their masters. Lets face it, if someone broke into your house & you were a dog, you'd bite them!!!! I think the Mayor should receive a nice settlement out of it though as I would be really upset if the Police raided my house & killed my dog/s for no good reason!!! The SWAT team would have to fully justify their belief that this was the correct address at the time of the raid and disclose where the raid was supposed to take place in order to compare the address for similarities. Along with the reasons/information to be raiding it in the first place. If it happened to me I'd sue their back sides off!!!!

Well, I know one thing for sure. If the SWAT came into MY house and killed my dogs, I'd get a lawyer on them in a heart beat, and my parents would hear all about it. Seriously, the SWAT team shouldn't be making mistakes like that anyway and should be more careful with who's house they decide to break into for a routine. Especially when it risks the lives of both humans and animals. The Calvos had every right to fill a lawsuit and I know I would do the same.
