I have heard so much about these power naps and how they help us make it through the rest of the day. Well, if I doze off for any short period of time I have messed up my night's sleep. I must not be doing something right. I have read where some big companies, overseas for sure, allot this into their work schedule. I am very interested in this and would love to be able to take a nap through the day to help me have more energy to finish the day. LOL My nap would be when the grandbabies are sleeping but lol they sleep in shifts sometimes. But please tell me about your experience and knowledge of power naps and if you take them and how they make you feel and if they interfere with your night's sleep. Thanks in advance and God bless you!

I too have heard about these so called "Power Naps". I guess they are a great idea. They mentioned that, if you take a nap for say half hour during your day, when you wake up you feel so energised and this has been encouraged. I think that there was a lot of speculation stating that this was a form of laziness but this definitely isn't the case. It's good to take a nap from time to time. The companies that are adopting this craze, I guess their employees are really benefiting from this new perk. I'm sure that the company in question also benefits as their work-force is much more productive! I think that if you take too many power naps during the day then it can obviously interfere with you sleeping patterns during the twilight hours. Still, everything in balance I guess. Andrew

Thanks Andrew for your comments. I think it was Japan or China where they encourage their employees to nap thru the day. The facts show that their employees were so much more productive. It really makes sense but i only wish I could take the short nap through the day and get more energized. Thanks for your comment and God bless you!

I take 15 to 20 minutes a day to nap. It keeps my brain more active and I seem to be more alert. I don't sleep 7 to 8 hours at night so this nap is very well needed. Maybe this is why older people fall asleep so easily during the day. From what I can gather older people only sleep about 6 hours at a time. Abraham Lincoln was a power nap person because he only slept 4 to 5 hours at night, he took long naps during the day and worked later at night when it was more peaceful.

Thanks, Kowgirl! I remember reading about Abraham Lincoln when you mentioned it. I think it is why older people take naps because they don't sleep as many hours through the night any more. I am in my mid 50's and I know I don't sleep as long at night as I used to. I am sure it will get shorter as the time goes on. But as of now I cannot sleep through the day without messing up my night's sleep no matter what. Thanks so much for your comments and God bless you, kowgirl.

power naps are strictly for 15 mins longer than that it works sort of in reverse and make you want more sleep. A quick fifteen minute sleep every 4-5 hours is supposed to be enough to keep your body going without sleeping at night. My understanding anyway. If you ask me, I guess it could be useful once in a really busy day, but i could never give up sleep i love it too much.... hmm think i can hear my bed calling me now!

LOL I sure don't want to give up my night's sleep. But I have seen days that a nap would be so welcomed! Thanks and God bless you!

Hello friend, I must compliment you on your choice of discussions. yes, I do use powernaps quite a lot and I have no trouble waking up after 20-25 minutes. However, it can only happen when you're REALLY tired. When you are not so tired and try to force yourself into a power nap, you can't sleep and then you don't get up in time and it kind of ruins your entire day.

Thank you, jshekhar for the compliment. I think there is an art to the power nap and learning it will take time. It sounds like it can help us to not get over tired. Thanks so much for the comment and God bless you!

Research tells that Nap has different stages.. It depends on how much time you take the Nap. For instance if you take 5 to 20 minutes of Nap that's Mini Nap and that helps increase alertness, stamina, motor learning and motor performance. The most known Nap is the Power Nap which took 20 minutes of Nap, wherein it improves muscle memory and clear the brain with useless built-up information which helps in developing long term memory (remembering facts, names and events). As for me, it's really evident that if I take a Nap for let say 10 to 20 minutes, I feel invigorated and with extra energy. I usually take a Nap during afternoon and when I feel the need to take a Nap. I indicated that study on my blog.

Thank you for this information. I had read that a power nap was about 20 minutes but as for me, if I knew I had to wake up in 20 minutes I'd have such a hard time gettin to sleep. LOL Then I would have my night's sleep messed up. Thanks so much for your information. God bless you!
