I was wondering if once after you make a payment, and you never receive a letter back, though you had before, if you can consider the lack of communication back about the payment received a sign that the debt is forgiven? I appreciate all answers but would really rather just get an answer from people who have dealt with debt or are debt counselors, debt collectors, themselves. Has this ever happened to you?

I recently paid off a collections that showed up on my report. I requested a statement from them once they got a payment which said that the bill was paid in full. I received that from them and it has been removed from the report. If you did not request such a statement from them or they did not tell you they would send you one then I would take the lack of communication as a sign. However I would call them to request such a statement as proof of the paid off debt. Having the statement helps if they do not mark your debt paid in full on your credit report.

The debt isn't paid in full, that is to say that while I think I've paid enough to pay off the original debt without the accruement of the interest rates, together with the interest rates, has not been paid off. Sorry if that sounds confusing, basically, I've paid a few hundred dollars, and have gotten one communication statement from them, with this payment being the second I've sent out. The most amount of money I've sent out as well, so that makes it a bit more scarier. I guess I'll just have to see if it comes, and if it doesn't, I'll call. Either way, I'd want to know before it either accrues more interest or gets turned over to another credit agency.

After reading your other responses I have a few questions for you. Is it time for your next payment? Like has it been a full month after you made the last one? This may be why you haven't heard from them? I am guessing however that it must be the time of the month to pay and you haven't received a statement from them? You said you paid more than the payment you paid before. You said that you have been making payments, is it a payment agreement that you set up with the company for a set amount each month? Maybe because you paid more you can skip your payment with them this month? I know you don't want to call them and I don't blame you but the best way to answer your question is through the company.

Was it payment in full? Was it a check? You should be able to see whether or not your check or money order was cashed. If it was, then yes, they took the payment. I've had that issue once before. I paid and never received an email confirmation or anything. I finally had to call them. They said they couldn't locate my account. I asked if that meant it was paid in full. They said yes. So, I would try to track whether the payment has been cashed and try to call them as well.

You can track a money order? That is good to know. The payment wasn't in full, but it was a good amount of money I sent out. I think that I may have paid off the debt itself, but not the interest fees accumulated. Do you think it's possible they could have forgiven the interest? I'll have to try to track the payment down if I haven't gotten anything back soon. I appreciate that.

Ok, just want to make it clear... you said you make a payment and never received any letter afterward? you mean you pay off your debt? if you have been with this debt for a long time then you will have to call that place and request a letter to prove that you paid it. If you make a payment for regular credit card and never get anything back then it mean everything is clear. however, to make sure everything is alright, you can also call them.

I don't want to call the place but I may if it is necessary or if it is better to do so. I have made a payment before this one I just made, this one I just made was more then the last one I made. My fiance and I are trying to pay this debt off, but while it's close to being paid off, it isn't yet.
