Two strong women in US politics who probably couldn't be further a part in their ideology. Hillary and Sarah both enjoy a cadre of outspoken supporters, but also endure a very vocal group of bashers.
Both have been thrashed and trashed, the spectrum has run from fair criticism to the completely uncalled for.
Which one has been the most mistreated by press, pundits, and We the People? I would bet that one's answer to that would be totally based on which side of the aisle the person is on themselves.
For me, I don't know. Both have been through more wringers than my grandma's bloomers. This might come as a shock to most of you, but I'd say it's too close to call.

IMO, Sarah Palin has endured a lot more than Hillary Clinton ever has but she brought a lot of it on herself. From being unprepared for interviews to the hateful rhetoric she spewed that brought out the worst in people, she made herself the polarizing figure she is today. I may have missed it since I wasn't planning to vote for a democrat in the primaries but I don't recall Hillary focusing on terrorist pals, suggesting that her opposition sees this country as imperfect, generating fear and mistrust. In fact, from what I remember from her campaign, she focused on what she could and would do for this country. She didn't encourage people to hate. So, tell me Ted, as a moderate Republican...did my response fit into the right slot?

I think your response was "right" on! I DID watch the primary campaign very closely and I really had to laugh sometimes when people spoke of how "dirty" it had gotten because I've seen much worse! I think it was a case of more people paying attention because no matter which way it went we were sure to get a Democratic nominee who would make history.
You mentioned the way Palin brought out the worst in people; Hillary brought out lots of people who weren't usually all that involved in politics. She spoke of how when her mother was born women weren't allowed to vote and the same had been true of my mom. There were lots of older women, including REALLY elderly women who came out for her rallies and they were generally quite positive. It was kind of like she represented the daughter of a whole generation of women who lived through some historical times themselves and were now seeing some results from their own hard work and hard-fought battles.

Did you sleep through the 90s and Hillary's time in the Senate? lol
"Where is the G-dmn f**king flag? I want the G-damn f**king flag up every f**king morning at f**king sunrise."
(From the book "Inside The White House" by Ronald Kessler, p. 244 - Hillary to the staff at the Arkansas Governor's mansion on Labor Day, 1991)
F**k off! It's enough that I have to see you sht-kickers every day, I'm not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*dmn job and keep your mouth shut."
(From the book "American Evita" by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 - Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with "Good morning."
"If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king @ss over here and grab those bags!"
(From the book "The First Partner" p. 259 - Hillary to a Secret Service Agent who was reluctant to carry her luggage because he wanted to keep his hands free in case of an incident.)
"Where's the miserable c*ck sucker?"
(From the book "The Truth About Hillary" by Edward Klein, p. 5 - Hillary shouting at a Secret Service officer)
"Put this on the ground! I left my sunglasses in the limo. I need those sunglasses. We need to go back!"
(From the book "Dereliction of Duty" p. 71-72 - Hillary to Marine One helicopter pilot to turn back while en route to Air Force One.)
"Stay the f**k back, stay the f**k away from me! Don't come within ten yards of me, or else! Just f**king do as I s ay, Okay!!!?"
(From the book "Unlimited Access", by Clinton FBI Agent in Charge, Gary Aldrige, p. 139 - Hillary screaming at her Secret Service detail.)
"You know, I'm going to start thanking the woman who cleans the restroom in the building I work in. I'm going to start thinking of her as a human being"

Sorry, Ted, I haven't read any of the books you quoted. Besides, I didn't think books were included in "press, pundits, and We the People".
Give 'em time and I'm sure there will be, as Rose would say, a zillion books out trashing Sarah Palin, too.

Yes, I'll admit it IS a shock to me! It will probably sock YOU but I tend to agree. In the "early days" for Hillary - during Clinton's first campaign and early in his Presidency - Hillary took a LOT of trash but I realize that's kind of a faded memory for some and not even a memory for others. Once Hillary decided to run for office herself, she really seemed to get down to business and even many of her detractors had to admit she really did her homework and became a very hardworking Senator. She didn't try to grab the spotlight as the junior Senator from N.Y., which she probably could have if she'd wanted to as such a high-profile former First Lady.
You're right that both Hillary and Sarah have been put through some wringers to be sure. It's really hard to objectively compare them because while there are definite similarities there are also huge differences between them. Their styles are very different and their methods of dealing with publicity are like night and day.

It is hard to be objective, which might be why I can't really decide who has been thrashed the harshest. Of course, if the question was more specific, like, "who has the press been hardest on", or "who have bloggers been harder one", it might be easier, but I didn't set anything like that, so...

The one thing that tends to stick in my mind about Palin was when she was campagning and she made the comment that she would not waste her time with the blue states because they are unamerican. Those are not the exact words but dang close to it. Now how do you expect to win the votes saying trash like that? Talkin and digging up trash about your apponent is normal, but to say this about the American people was just crossing that line by leaps and bounds.

I have to agree that if Palin was saying blue states were unAmerican, then that's a bit much. It's like selling working men and women short by saying, "He's fighting for plumbers," and then belting out an elitist laugh. Thankfully no politician would be elected if they laughed at hard-working Americans like plumbers.
Oh. Huh?
Dangit!!

Hillary was actually accused of murder without an iota of evidence. I kinda think that trumps just about every other bashing.
I was a strong supporter of Hillary and I know others feel the same about Sarah Palin. Truth to tell, they were both too divisive to ever reach the presidency (or vice presidency) and I think our first female president (or VP) is still out there waiting in the wings. At this point in the Bush presidency, most Americans outside of Chicago had never heard of Barack Obama and today most of us still don't know who that lady will be.

i think Hillary is ahead of Sarah, but she is quickly catching up with her. I think Hillary took a lot of abuse from the mess with her hubby being caught with the other woman and then again when she was running for president. But the new is on Palin, and they will not stop, Washington is scared of her, she is their biggest threat. So I expect to hear in the news more and more as time goes by against her.

Sarah Palin has been attacked more unfairly and she and her family have been mistreated by the media and others much more than Hillary. The only person that Charlie Gibson has ever treated the way he treated Palin is Palin; his "interview" of her in Alaska was a full blown attack including the use of agressive body posture and invasion of space. Then there is Letterman attacking Palin's 14 year old daughter and never really apologing but just making more jokes that he tried to pass off as an apology.

I agree, the incompetent press and TV personalities have been much harder on Palin.. however, when you look at all the trashing both have taken... I have a hard time deciding which has had it worse.
Of course, Hillary has had it for decades, and Palin only a year now.. but still it's about the same.

I would say that both women have been horribly mistreated by the public, but I say that Sarah Palin has had the worst mistreatment because of how she dresses, how she appears to the public, her politics, and her experience or lack there of. Sarah Palin was judged on everything. Hilary Clinton was seen a masculine woman. She was judged harshly, but didn't receive the brutal beating that Sarah Palin took. For the record, Palin giving up her spot as governor was a very bad move on her part because it shows weakness, and it shows that she is a quitter. She did more harm than good by doing that, and she will not receive much love from her party for doing so. If she had stuck to being a governor, she could have stood a good chance in the future of doing well for her party.
