Are you brave enough...

or crazy enough to try cutting your own hair? If you've done it before, what was the outcome? I'm actually in the middle of cutting my own hair for the first time. I needed to sit down and take a break for a bit. So far it seems to be going ok. If I succeed, I'll have saved about $20. If I don't, I'll just go to the salon and get it fixed and spend the $20 I would have spent on a haircut anyway. So I figure I don't have much to lose.

I have done it so many times that it has been short, shorter,I have had bangs. I had really good hair.OK hair, bad hair. Every one says I do a OK job of my hair, but I have had bad hair. The good thing my hair grows fast,so its all good.Right now I have long hair with bangs.

My hair grows fast too, so the little mistakes that I wasn't able to fix will probably be invisible in a couple of weeks.

Hi, you are brave, I never try this, and I don't have enough courage to do this, my hair is the most important part for me, so I always take good care of my hair, and if I want to cut my own hair, I will go to the salon, and find a good one, hair is important for women, have you finished it? how about the result?

I did finish it, and it's not too bad. The front part is just fine, since I could see what I was doing well. The back has a few mistakes that need to be fixed, but it's not so bad that I'd be afraid to go out in public. I think I can probably fix the mistakes myself with a little more time and patience.

Hi, that's so cool, I think you must have good patient, and from now on you can be your own salon, and can save a lot of money for go to the hair salon, maybe I should try this the next time.

Until and unless you are really adept at what you are doing there is no point in cutting your own hair in the hope of saving a few dollars. More often than not one will end up making a mess of it and then you have to drag your sorry feet to the barber to get it mended. So that $2O dollars you are talkin about might come at a big price.

I have been cutting an dying my own hair since high school (Kool aid and all), if you take your time and make sure that you are making things even it is fine. Also make sure you have sharp scissors and cut small clumps at a time.

I really could use a pair of sharper scissors. I have scissors that are intended for hair-cutting, but they're from Walmart so the quality isn't great.

When I wore bangs, I cut my own most of the time, or had one of my girlfriends do it. Cutting the back of my hair was much more challenging!

I've done that too.Ü But only for a couple of times.Ü

frizzy hair - trimmed frizzy hair
I don't think it is crazy. I did it once. I had my hair permed and when it turned out frizzy I did my own trimming. Though I never have done it before but it turned out very good, as if it is done by a professional hair stylist.

Good for you. I've only had a perm once, and mine was a little frizzy too.

I have cut my own hair once. It was hard to do the back. It turned out okay but some of it was uneven but I just let it grow out and then went and got professional hair cut. I dont think I will ever do it again although it did save me some money.

Mine is a little uneven in the back, too. I'm probably going to try to fix it on my own, but if I can't I'll go to a hairdresser next time.

It is an interesting topic. :-) I am brave enough to do so, I have a bunch of long hair so all I need to trim is just the front hair, I just need to be careful and make both side balanced so it is not that difficult. BEcause I don't feel like spending 20 - 30 bucks for the salon to trim a little bit of hair which I could do by mylself.

Getting both sides even can be a real challenge even if your hair is long, but with short hair it was especially difficult. You can't just keep cutting bits off until it's even, because eventually it would just get too short.

I have never crazy enough to cut my own hair, because hair is so important to one person, so I am afraid if I cut my own hair and it turns out to be very bad looking, then I will wait for weeks to expect it grows out again. It is really terrible.

I'm not that attached to my hair. Besides, if I ever screw it up, I'll just go to the salon to get it fixed.

I think it is a bit difficult to cut your own hair cos you cannot see the back og your head. I always cut my front fringe and cut my daughters' front fringe as well. But I have never tried cutting the whole head. But I did tried dyeing my own hair though.

I've dyed my own hair many times. I'm not even sure if it's back to my natural color yet. I think it's close.

I did that before. I cut my own hair when I was a secondary student. I stand in front of the big mirror, 1 hand holding a scissors, the other hand holding another small mirror, to get to see the hair at the back. I managed to cut my hair shorter, without any hairdresser to do that for me. But of course if I want to have a new stylish haircut, say like bob or layered cut, Then I must go that for hair stylist.

I actually attempted to do a layered bob on my own hair on the first try. I probably should have gone for something simpler, because it was difficult. It came out ok with only a few mistakes I need to fix, though.

I cut my son's hair since born until now he is two. My husband cut his own hair too. He has that kind of hair, you know, the wake up from bed kinda look, so, the messier the better. As for me, I can only trim my fringe the most, the back of my hair I dare not cut myself as it will be too difficult to reach. I have shoulder length hair. I dont go to fancy saloon to get my hair cut. I frequent my neighbourhood hair dresser and it only cost me like USD2-3 per cut? So I think I'll skip the hassle and let them do the cutting for me.

The "neighborhood" hair dressers in my city are even more expensive than the chain salons. The cheapest haircut you can get in my city is $10USD, and that's at the beauty school where a student will be cutting your hair. A professional cut is at least $15 at the "cheap" places, and the independent salons charge at least $30.

I have :D I dont care how any one would say, I like it :D I even tried coloring it and doing all sort of things - You save so much if you think about it even if you learn some makeup and nail doing and other stuff, you'll save a lot of money. try collecting each amount of money you'll spend doing it out and do it home, see how much it will reach in 3 months :D you'll have a saving by year end

I've always done my own makeup and nails, at least when I was still wearing makeup and nail polish. I don't wear makeup often anymore because I just don't see the point, and I've stopped using nail polish because it's full of harmful chemicals. But you're right, doing it yourself is a huge savings. I can't understand how some people can afford to have their nails done professionally every week!

I always cut my own hair. i have since i was a little kid.. around 10 years old. sometimes i mess it up a little but not too bad. i'd rather do it myself. i hate doing it but why spend the money? and i don't like going to places. i'm very anti social because i have anxiety. a couple people in my family do hair and my cousin just started school for it today. so i don't ever really need to go somewhere lol

I don't really care so much what my own hair looks like, but as a freelance musician playing for weddings, some of my clients might prefer that my hair looked a little more professional. I seriously wish that I had a friend or family member who could cut my hair!

If being brave enough is just all about cutting one's hair, then I would definitely say that I am really brave. Since I had lost my hair due to mismanaged in dyeing my hair, it has grown so little but it is back. I decided to cut my own hair since I am afraid to go to the salon.

I had a hair dye job gone bad once. Fortunately, my boyfriend's mom could cut hair pretty well, and she didn't have to cut it all off to get rid of the ugly parts.

I have been cutting and trimming my own hair for about 13 years now, ever since I went to Regis in the mall and the young guy there cut it unevenly. I decided then and there that I could do that good! In the beginning I had some mistakes, not too bad, but luckily hair grows, and I didn't give up. Plus, I used to watch how the salon people would hold the hair certain ways to cut it. I'm saving oodles of money, and enjoying being my own hairdresser. Besides, they charge way too much! Good luck on your cutting also... :O)

Yeah, I've watched the people at the salon quite a bit, too. I've been cutting my husband's hair for a while now. The thing that irks me is that I know exactly how I need to hold the hair and what kind of cuts to make, but actually doing it upside down and backwards in the mirror at the back of my head is a different thing altogether...

Well, if your room-mates let you cut their hair, you must be good at it. Either that or they were just crazy college kids.
