what are those points of the ptc sites for?

some ads offer points and not price once clicked. are those points convertible to cash in the long run? i used to click everything and anything posted until i found out that the ads offering points are almost half of the offered ads. is clicking ads with points a waste of time? i know many dislike ptc's but i don't need the money yet now. it's my piggy bank so to say...
