Do you have problems getting your child to eat, what you prepare ?

My son prefers to eat the food at burger king rather than his home cook meal. He has become a very picky eater and to satisfy his appetite is the hardest thing. What's your take on this?

I think that all kids would prefer Burger King over home cooked meals. I think that we teach our kids this by bringing then to the fast food restaurants. We need to limit the fast food as a treat once a month, rather than just giving in whenever they want takeout.

I have 4 children the oldest being 11 and the youngest is 8...feeding them can be a challenge sometimes. My oldest will eat anything I make. My youngest will eat almost anything I make, but doesn't care for pasta. The 2 in the middle are my hardest. For years I always made 2 dinners. One for my husband and I and the other for the kids. Just in the past year have I stopped doing this. Unless I make something that I know the kids won't eat, this is the only time I will make something different for them. Now I make sure there is at least one thing that I know each of them will eat. Ever since I started doing this they have tried many more things and realized there are alot of foods that they really do like. One of my boys begs me to make broccoli and he is 9! I think once they get to this age they really need to start to try things and realize that they are not going to get something just for them every night. Also, if I make something they really might not like too much then I make sure they have fruit or yogurt for snack before bed, something good for them and filling.

I too have kids that prefer the fast food, but we very seldom visit the drive thru. How old is your son? I have five children (11, 9, 5, and 2 year old twins) and all have different tastes. I have found that they like to eat things that they have helped me cook or even make themselves. For my younger two: they like fruits, veggies, chicken, mashed potatoes, raviolis, spaghetti and meatballs, and pretty much anything that has a little seasoning in it. My five year old likes just about anything but will only eat certain things HER way, so I have her poor her own cereal with a little bit of milk, she helps cut up the veggies we cook, she even poors her own drinks. Just because she is picky. My 9 and 11 year olds are huge eaters! They will eat just about anything. A child's taste changes over time just as our tastes change. Taste changes will continue on until we die, so we have to get use to that. My suggestion is to try raw veggies with peanut butter, ranch dressing, or other sauce. This is a great snack and very healthy for him. He does not have to know that they are good for him, but he can make his own little people with carrot sticks, M&M's for eyes, peanut butter for attaching body parts, and maybe string twizzlers for hair. Kids like having fun treats. You could also go to the store and buy bags of chicken nuggets, french fries, and little sandwhiches, and have them at home for when he refuses to eat anything else. You might even be able to pull off the kid's meal from Burger King by keeping a kid's meal bag and buy a small $1 toy from the Dollar Tree (store). Cook the food and bag it or even have him bag it. He might enjoy that! Kind of like a dress up thing. You can even have him make a chef's hat to go with it. Find a few of his favorite foods and keep them on hand. I have always been one to have the "just in case" food stashed somewhere. I hope that you find a solution! Good Luck! Witmuch

I was in the same place as you are. I have a very picky eater and was becoming a short order cook, I was so tired of making so many different things at every meal that I finally stopped. They eat what I cook or they can have cereal. My picky eater is now eating a wider range of foods and has discovered that he really enjoys trying new things. In fact his latest food is Pizza when before he would not eat anything that was Red..
