Ok, I need some opinions here. Yesterday my Nephew stayed the night. While he was here he asked me to go to a game site so he could show me some games. The site is called Joe’s Cartoons. The first game he showed me is where you shoot fish…not a big deal till I saw a topless mermaid pop up out of the water and jiggle her big hooters…my Nephew loved that! I quickly closed the game. Then his sister showed up and wanted to show me two other things on the site…she swore there was no nudity and that they were funny. She was partly right. The first one was Octomom in a blender…I had some misgivings about it but they both assured me that it was funny. The blender had 7 buttons on it…when you push each of the first 6 she says something different and it’s mostly all swearing. The last button turns on the blender, grinds her to a bloody pulp and spits several babies out that all start crying except one that starts peeing. The kids thought it was hilarious. They begged for the last one and against my better judgement I clicked on it. It was about a little boy with a pump gun. Everytime he pumps it he shoots something else…a hamster hanging in a tree, a snake, other ppl, other animals…all of which were shot in the eyes and dropped dead while blood ran down their faces. When I asked who showed them the site, they told me my cousin did. Now she’s a member here and we are only like a year apart in age…she also has two teenage children. So I called her and asked her and she said yes, she’d showed it to them and it was a funny site. I told her I didn’t think it was really appropriate for a 12-year-old to see (my Nephew). My Niece is 14, her two are 14 and 16. Anyways she didn’t see anything wrong with it but I don’t think with all the violence going on in the world and on TV and in the movies that kids need to be exposed to even more violence on the internet. I will add that she did ask the kids’ dad if she could show them the site and he said it was ok but then he lets them watch stuff they shouldn’t see all the time. So would you let your kids on a site like this? Do you think it’s appropriate to let kids of these ages on a site like this? Do you think letting kids see stuff like this has a negative impact on them and how they treat ppl and animals around them? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

My oldest is 12, and I don't even like it when he sees a kissing scene on TV, but I'm rather prude most of the time. I'd never let him play on a website like that, and I probably wouldn't want to be on it myself! I think it would make me rather uncomfortable. But different people have different views. My brother would probably think that's hillarious and he'd probably let his 7 year old son play on it, but he's a sicko like that!

I realy do not think it is approapte for a 12yrs old to see the contect described on the site. I think I may be allright for a 16 yers old. but if the parents let their chilrend see this type of contet, there is not much you can do. I do not have any children now but in the future but I would have to see the site and detime for myself. I realy do not think inages have a total bad infucenc on kids, just depends on how you raise you childrend to behave when approapite.

If I still had children at home I would not allow them to see something like that..I would never give them permission to see 'game shows' like that..I think that is why so many children are killing people..I cannot understand parents who would allow their kids to watch this stuff..I would not watch it myself..Yes it has a negative impact and they think it is o.k. to treat people wrong or even to kill animals and people..Most children don't have any respect for other people and seeing things like that just makes it worse..It is a shame that so many adults approve of this kind of entertainment for children and it is so sad..

I don't think you can hide life from the kids!!! What you describe sounds a little sick, but I think that is the time that a parent (or concerned relative) should voice their opinion & explain why they feel it is gross & sickening. My best friend refused to let he boys watch The Simpsons because she found them disgusting & gross. I can't say she is wrong!!! However, I think she missed an excellent opportunity to impart her morals on her kids. The boys heard from their friends how funny the show was. So, they always made sure they were eating dinner at a friend's house on the night they were on. The boys saw every installment of the show with NO input from Mom...only their friends who think it is hilarious!!! If my friend had allowed the show on her TV, she could have made any necessary comments as to her feelings or beliefs, thereby putting her two cents worth of morals instead of NONE!!! I doubt that it would have helped, but it couldn't have hurt anything!!!

that sounds sick to me. i will not let my kids go to that site and play with it. i have 13 and 8 and 2. and they like to watch cartoons and play computer during weekends. they sometimes watch videos in the computer too. i know im not there all the time to see what they are watching or playing, but if ever i see too much violence in it, i tell them to stop and find another game to play.

Trouble is kids do think this kind of thing is funny. I don't!! I wouldn't let my children watch programmes like 'Grange Hill' either, which was a U.K. tv children's programme which I thought was unsuitable for children. There are two many video's, tv programmes, computer games which are disgusting and aimed at children, this ends up desensitising them, so that they think that there is no problem at all. Not only that, but these will eventually get boring to them so they will then look for something worse, eventually they will forget what is imaginary and what is real life, and then try to paractice what they have been taught from these programmes.

I thought I was the only parent in the country that banned Grange Hill, it's great to here someone else shared my views.

I think it makes parents jobs more difficult. So many kids look at sites like these that they are jaded and really don't have a clue about real relationships with people. I'm not happy with those sites, but in these days it is hard to find something age appropriate that isn't a little off. Of course I loved Mickey Mouse and Peanuts...

Is your cousin a sicko or just unaware? There has to be some underlying reason she would share this type of inappropriate content, such as you'd described, with minors. I would say that it is not a good idea to share information from this site with anyone, especially if they are under the age of 21. Uh, Boo!

I wouldn't let my kids on there, not until they were a LOT older. At least 16, maybe older than that...

At 12? If I had found my child watching that garbage at 12 I would have bounced their sorry butts off the computer and banned them for a long, long time

Those teenagers have probably already seen worse with their friends at school or at the movie theater or any where else in their worlds. You can't protect them forever. Hopefully their parents have taught them enough morality to not go around shooting little animals or people.

That was so very interesting to read and reflect upon. I work with children in my spare time and know a bit or two about them. I believe in today's day and age, it is impossible to keep track or control over children's mind (read browsing habits). We might try and put all sorts of internet protection on a child's computer, but who can control the imagination and curiosity of children and teenagers? Moreover, it is more like a peer fascination. When one child finds a certain behavior "cool" or "funny", others in the same age group are likely to follow suit. Everyone wants to conform, so the one who speaks out and says that such games are gross will be left out and ridiculed by the others. Slowly, this child's thought patterns too start shifting, and he/she will also be conforming with the others. In today's world, with so much violence n grossness in the media, there is very little one can do to keep children away from them. What might help is to nurture their moral values alongside, so that they can learn to discern as they mature into young adults. Worry not - it is just a passing phase. They will eventually grow out of this mob mentality and learn to appreciate the finer things in life, with proper family love and support. Thanks for sharing that incident.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Joe Cartoon. Used to watch those videos a few years ago. I think they are funny, but at the same time they are a little sick. I think it's more adult based humour, but at the same time I suppose it depends on the maturity of the teenager. I don't think it could have too much of a negative impact compared to a lot of things you see on the tv, etc. Plus it's animation, then again I think if it's going to 'give' someone the bright idea to try out a hamster in a blender that reflects more on that person than on Joe Cartoon. Anyways this is my first post here, I hope it was relevant! :)

Hi twoey, I agree with you, it is far too violent and sends the wrong message. Who would anyone want to teach their children that such actions are funny? I know that it isn't real and I suppose the children do as well, but I think we need to get past this sort of thing and there is better humour than that to be found. Blessings.

i can't believe that there are sites out there like that that allow children to view their stuff! Wow, talk about encouraging less than socially acceptable kids! They are ok for adults, but not for kids. Should have a member only to read option!

There is something more than wrong with even an adult indulging in such gross form of entertainment. My nephew (7 yrs old) is allowed to go on the internetand play games. We take note of the games he plays and once it looks voilent in a certain manner the answer is no, get out of that game. If children live what they learn then it is no wonder our world is getting as mixed up as it really is. Those games are rather scary and should not be accessible to children. Theres no way I could play such games or sit and watch anyone play them.

I think that what kids see and hear ona regular basis does affect how they treat the world..people animals etc around them and that websites people veiw affect that also. My little sister came home from school back in march and she showed my mom a site that one the kids (11yrs old) in her class had been on and he had thought it was sooo funny. My sister was offended. There were flash games but they were like beat the teacher up, chop up so and so. My mom and i were both pretty offended (she took it to the school and it really bugged alot of the teachers and the site ended up blocked on that network) Honestly cant remember the name of the site though. you could even upload a picture of someone you didnt like to "kill with an axe"

Yes, I do think these sites will have a negative impact on children. I don't have any children, myself, but I wouldn't let a child of mine view such sites. This is awful! There's no telling what the world is coming to! My mother used to say that if it's not fit for children to see, it's not fit for anybody to see. Kathy.
