Gender roles in society

Femininism came up in discussion in my class this morning. Gender roles also went along with that. The professor made a list of historically masculine and historically feminine traits. I was wondering, will gender roles ever be totally broken down and separated in society? What do you think?

Hi, mel! There will probably be remnants left behind, but we're going in the right direction. Other than our "plumbing", there are no substantive differences. As more and more people realize this, the older ways fade away. This horrible economy is helping -- whoever can find a job takes it, and chores at home and such must be shared. Every step helps!

I agree with you that there will be remnants left behind. I feel like inside the home will remain the woman's territory and outdoors at home will remain the man's territory to a point. For example, mowing the grass. I know there are women who mow the grass and do other stuff outside and love it. Growing up though, my dad always took care of things outside and mom kept the house clean and fixed most meals. Dad helped fix meals too, especially if he got home before mom but it was mostly her.

You make a good point, but a lot of it is, at long last, fading away! I grew up with a father wo worshipped my mother, so he did everything, inside and outside. While my husband's away, I'm the one doing everything, and I' getting tired of it, but he says he'll be happy to do it all when he gets back!

I can't imagine my dad doing everything. He helped out a lot but he definitely didn't do everything. I can't imagine my boyfriend doing everything. He has cooked for me before and he makes sure I am fed when I am at his house. He takes care of me but I don't think he would do everything for me.

I think it'll never truly be broken down cuz being masculine/dominant is part of a man. they cant help to be more dominant than others..

I feel like there are women out there who have that dominant trait. There are also men out there who are not as dominant. How far do you think the gender roles will be broken down?

I don't think that gender roles will be ever completely broken. The reason being is because there are some religions that hold fast to the gender role as beliefs. For example, Islam. Also, there are some people (men and women) who enjoy gender roles and thrive in them.
