Can you still write?

I've been using computers since 1985 - that's a good 23 years of computing. What I've noticed is that my handwriting is getting real bad now. In fact, whenever I hold a pen now, I feel strange. Remember the feeling of holding a pen in school for the first time and learning to form the letters in the alphabet into a word? It's quite similar. Do you experience something like this? I think it's time I use MORE pen & paper before I lose penmanship ability.

WEll, my handwriting has always been poor.. and it still is!! lol!! But I do still write a lot so that helps. I jot down notes a lot while I study. I also keep a journal and I am still old fashioned because I like the old school method of actually holding the book and pen in my hands!! :)So I still write quite a bit!

Hi, you're still studying? Cool...or were you referring to the past? It's good to know that you're keeping a journal in handwritten form. Yeah, nothing beats the old-fashioned way...sometimes :) Cheers!

Hmm... I wouldn't say that I'm extremely shocked ...no way. You could study at any age you want but I was sort of comparing the diligence of the elderly especially in the U.S. in studying no matter how old they are with those in my own country. In my part of the world, hardly anyone studies when they're 50 years old. Most students come from the age range of 18-45 in general. The habit (if it is a habit) of studying for knowledge, not merely for a higher salary has not been inculcated. So, if you're still studying, happy studying :) I'm sure your children are proud of their mommy.

yup, when hands is not used to write anymre, usually your handwriting is getting worse. I compared my handwriting now with my handwriting when I was in high school and yeah there is difference. hahah

Hi dephie77, yup handwriting changes over time. When you get older, it changes too; that's the time when you're less able to control the movement of your hand, and the strokes of scripts. That's why the handwritings of many elderly people are a bit curvy (no offense to anyone) but still very legible. Cheers!

Handwriting becomes poor when we stop writing for sometime. Mine has gobe bit bad now, but my typing speed has improved. Infact, I feel the pain in my thumb these days. You can write a diary not everyday. This will improve your writing and help put thoughts in paper that you can read as you get older.

Well, I am a tutor, so basically I still write on a daily basis. Not as much as when I was a student, but, I still write. So, yes, I can still write. I honestly agree people should go on writing on paper occasionally before they lose touch on how to hold a pen and write! Technology is not only making us advance, it is also making us 'handicapped' in some way..

I have notebooks full of my Writings. Whether it is articles or notes I have written down in hopes of being published somewhere, or notes I have taken while at church I always find myself writing. Even thoughts I eventually share and talk about here I have written down from time to time as well. Yes, I do use the Computer a lot for corresponding back with people, but at the same time I have my writings in places as well. I guess to me there is enjoyment in both just depends on where I am at at the time.

yes i do, but as always, my penmanship is not that good and at times i feel like now that i am using the computer and not write too much, i feel like my penmanship gets worst and i easily feel tired when writing...hehehe but i don't have hard times in holding a pen... so i guess yes, you should try to use pens and papers once in a while to keep the writing ability...

One thing I do to make sure my handwriting stays nice is to brainstorm on paper with a pen. I do most of my actual writing on the computer, but I have my brainstorming notebook that I take with me just about anywhere, and I write in it daily. It keeps my hand strong and the pen familiar! --Lindsey Rainwater www.rainwaterfreelancing.blogsopt.com www.rainwaterfreelancewriting.wordpress.com

Yes I can still write.. I have always had a hard time writing.. but I can still do it.. not everyone can read my handwriting, but that has always been a problem.. I think that the only difference between my hand writing and my computing is the fact that my hands can keep up to my thoughts; so my writing is a lot more clearer.. I use to stumble over words that I could not spell, thank god for spell check.. and my hands would physical hurt after writing for so long... Then my thoughts would end up being incomplete... Not being able to go back later to pick up were I left off.. So I think computing has just better my writing abilities all the way around.

Dear Kevchua, If a person is a lecturer, they might still have the chance to write on the whiteboard. Still have the 'touch' Wow, you have been on computer for 23 years, it is substantially a long period of time for not holding a pen...Moreover, we are on electronic gadgets for all our communications like NOW, on the net, msn, sms, mms ...less and less opportunity to pen-write. For myself, I do write once in awhile because I like to personalised the conventional greeting cards to my families and friends. All the ebst and do keep in touch :)

I do find it strange sometimes when I hold a pen, my handwriting seems to change compared before I even started using computers. But, when it comes to using pencil, I find it easy to write I don't know why =)

I think it's got something to do with the weight of the pencil. It is lighter than a pen, therefore easier to write with. What do you think? :)

It's one of the reasons, but I don't know to be honest I just find it comfortable to write in pencil =)
