what is the best alternative to plastic

i heard this on news that some store or grocery will use paperbags instead of plastic to protect our earth. well if we use paper bag (think it) how many trees will be use in making paperbags... i think we should use tote bag. just like i saw in some groceries here. they have campaign to use a tote bag and of course everytime u buy u will re use your tote bag. i think this is the best way to save our earth. how about you what is the best alternative to plastic or paper bag.

The alternative would be to use eco-friendly paper to make bags. Such bags need to be a bit of high quality in order to carry heavy loads. Otherwise, one must make it a habit to carry cloth bags with them to carry whatever they buy.
Nowadays, the shopping malls in my country INDIA are ever growing in number. They don't allow outside bags to be carried inside. In such case, the person can leave the cloth bag outside in counter, buy the goods, make billing and carry the goods outside in a trolley and then transfer the goods to the cloth bag, then there will be no need of plastic bags. But I have been toled that the plastics used in MALLS these days are eco-friendly and will not do much harm to the environment.
