I heard on the radio somebody say that the rich are often insecure and unhappy. I think it is worse being poor, insecure and unhappy. What do you think? Is money the root of all evil?

Money is NOT the root of all evil, the Greed caused by a Love of Money IS the root of all evil!!! Money can be used for all sorts of great things like food and shelter for the poor, curing diseases, spending holidays with loved ones etc... Having money can buy you the time to spend your life doing the things that are really important to you. For me, Time is the most important thing to have! Not having enough money means that you are a slave to the system and are not in control of your life. Money is great if used properly, so I really do not like the term " Money Is The Root Of All Evil" Also the terms Rich and Poor are often used incorrectly I feel. I have seen people with no money who are rich as they have everything they want! I have also seen people who have loads of money but no time to spend it and enjoy life. These people are poor in my opinion!

Great response RawBill1: I could not agree with you more! I relate to your view on time; I would have to say that is the one thing I lack more than anything in my life and no amount of money can change that; it is up to me to make the needed changes in my life. Yes, love of money is not an healthy option. Thanks for responding, I appreciate it.

That's Ok :-) It is a great topic! Yes time is one thing that you can never get back! You can always get back the money that you have spent or lost! :-)

Well said. Greed, indeed, is dangerous. It's quite coincidental because as I was writing this comment, I am listening to a song entitled "Dangerous" by Akon.

If one knows how much is enough he can be happy and secure. This is what I always think. You must be able to rule the money and the day money begins to rule you the security and happiness will be in the air.

I agree. Unfortunately sometimes lack of money can take over one's life and that is a sad way to live. My personal wish is not to have to worry about finances, not necessarily to be wealthy. Thanks for the response balasri!

Having not being able to pay for your child's food and pay off the house loan would be the most unhappy thing on earth. Many times I have wondered what does money actually do. I think money gives us a material security. Even when you are sad, depressed and sad you can eat well and travel to the place you would like to. It also gives us a power - the power to give is away to those who need it. So, I agree with you. Poor life puts a restriction on us. We cannot chase our dreams. Having said this, some people are born happy no matter what.

That is true and people who can be happy regardless of how much money they have are very fortunate. I have money concerns all the time and it does bring me down. I try to be happy anyway but when my cat is sick and I can't afford the vet I get very very sad! I don't wish for excessive wealth; just enough to take the pressure away...Thanks for dropping in mimpi, appreciate it!

Hi Paula How are you? I think, the money to lead a comfortable life and to be able to chase our dreams and see to the comfort and happiness of our loved ones would be all I want as well. After that money gets to go waste.

Hello paula, that's an expression I heard a lot of when I wes young, but we certainly need some to survive in to day's world. I don't believe you can buy happiness. Although, you can buy something that makes you happy. I don't believe being rich makes you automaticly happy. You only have to look at all the wealthy stars who have taken their own lives.

Yes that's true. Humans are complex and there can be many reasons for our unhappiness; money will not necessarily take our sadness away. Personally I would love to have a little more and to be able to give others a hand as well. I would not mind still having to work or to save for what I want, my dream is not to worry about lack of cash ever again! In the meantime, I'll keep buying Lotto! Thanks for responding mipen!

I believe most people would be happy just being able to afford the things they need, with the odd one or two valuable items that aren't really necessary. However, now a fridge and tv sre not considered as luxurious, but necessary items.

There is some truth to what you have said, Paula.. That's why I prefer to be in the middle; non poor and none too rich. I just want to live comfortably, with some savings for rainy days and enough money to do what I want in terms of hobbies and stuff like that.. When greed sets in, then the root of all evil will start to form. Another thing which I believe is that when one has the habit of donating bits of their money say, to the poor or for charity organizations, they are able to shed away their selfishness bit by bit. This is not proven, but I just have the feeling it is possible..

Yes it is man's greed that is evil and not the money itself. It is common knowledge that the more you give the more you will receive. It is worth the time I think. You are right it is never too late to change your ways in regards to attitude to money; anyone can learn to be more giving over time. Thanks for responding zed_ka4!

I dont think so,at least not all of them .I have seen many and they seem to be living up ,going to many parties ,buying anything they want, owning many cars and homes .If that is insecurity I want a truckload of it .I guess that some rich people are paranoid because they think that persons are out there who just want to take away their wealth but it all depends one who you are . I have never subscibed to the notion that money is the root of all evil but rather the love of money .I have seen rich people who use their money for good ,getting involved in all kinds of charity and I have seen poor people use their poverty to commit all kinds of crime,so its the heart behind the owner of this money

Yes I agree, it is not the money that can create evil it is the way people yearn for it and will go to immoral lengths to obtain it, you are right in saying that is the love of money that is the root of all evil. I wouldn't mind testing that theory for myself (LOL)! Thanks for responding ronnyb!

Well, in all cases I truly agree that money is and can be the root of all evil, and something that most people often take for granted, and when they have more, they often think things will be wonderful, but many times they still find themselves still unhappy and unsatisfied as well. Personally I think life is really what we choose to make it, and if you choose to let god in and help you out it makes it so much better as well.

I definately think it can be! Not too long ago, I don't even remember where I was or who I was listening to on the television; but an organization had done this survey with 200 American's who were worth more than 1 million dollars. They ask if their million dollar bank accounts were enough. Each of them said no. When ask how much more would it take to make them happy, each of them said..."Just a little more"

I agree. It is worse to be poor, insecure and unhappy. Some people that "have money" don't appreciate it enough. At least that is my opinion anyway. I'm not saying all of them don't, but some of them don't. When you have money then you don't have to worry about some of the things that poor people have to worry about. I don't think money is the root of all evil but I think it can bring out evil!

I believe that money certainly isn't everything but on the other hand opens up doors for many things or opportunities. It is also my beliefs that (unfortunately) people making good money quick becomes more powerfull which unfortunately makes them feel more worthy and better than the rest of us. Having a lot of money wont necessary make you more happy - you can't buy happiness. Money could very well be the root to all evil, if you don't know how to handle or spend your money.

Yes, I guess it's not the money itself but the way it is handled that can be damaging. Money cannot buy happiness it's true but is sure would eliminate some of my concerns at the moment! (lol) The love of money is a very dangerous thing; it is important to remember what is important in life. Thanks for responding freebiesandsavings!

I dont subscribe to the fact that you will be miserable if you are rich nor do I subscribe to the notion that you will be unhappy if you are poor .I believe that happiness is a a state of mind and you can be unhappy if you are rich and similarly unhappy if you are poor ,it just depends on wheter you are satisfied with what you have or not .You could be happy with the little you have when you are poor and similarly unhappy with what you have when you are rich

Mind is the Root cause of All evil. Is there anyone to object my point? Money is just an Idea. It differentiates Rich and Poor. Its the mind which misuses money. Rich Businessmen do good for society with their money. Also there are many poor who waste their money by drinking. Mind is the root cause of all evils not money

"Mind is the Root cause of All evil" There is a lot of truth in that statement. It is all about how we view and use money that can be useful or evil. Thanks sureshrec22 for an excellent response!

I would say yes.Poor wants to earn money for his survival.Earned one wants to save for future. The saving one wants to have more and to be rich. The rich one wants to keep it up.All these stages requires money in a quick manner. And for that man is doing evil and become evil.Money is the root cause of all evils.Average money and balanced mind gives a healthy life.

I don't really believe that the rich ones are often insecure and unhappy. Although yes there may be some rich people out there who aren't satisfied with their life. However, oftentimes, most of them are surely happy with the bountiful blessings they're receiving. I mean, who wouldn't right? On the other hand, yes I do believe that money is the primary motive in doing crimes, abuse, and anything unethical.

There are unhappy rich people as well as unhappy not so rich ones and I guess it depends on the individual and his or her perception of money and what he or she is prepared to do to get it. The common theme through all the responses to this discussion is that it is not the money itself but what how people choose to use it and what lengths they are prepared to go to obtain it.

Well, I don't think money is the root of all evil no..but money can change people for the worse sometimes. They feel they are living higher above all others..when certain types of people get money it goes to their heads and they become people that alot don't like because they try or do to make people of lesser value feel like dirt beneath their feet and treat them that way. With others..money is just money and something they have. They don't let it give them airs and they don't put on airs about it. But I have seen some with their noses so high in the air that they would drown if it started pouring the rain. I would be happy to just have money to get what I need and occasionally something that I want.

"...I have seen some with their noses so high in the air that they would drown if it started pouring the rain" (lol) I know people like that and that is the sad part of having a lot money (or pretending to)! It is not money that is evil but the greed and the sense of power that can come with it I guess. I am like you; I would like a little more to take the stress away and help others and for me that would be enough. Thanks for responding mtdewgurl!

Money in itself is not bad, it is how you use it that counts. One should always make sure that one has enough to last ones entire lifetime. You should have full control of your money but you should not let money control you, ie, you should not become a slave of money. You should always see that you do not get too attached to money because there is a real danger of greed developing. If you become greedy and miserly then you can be led astray and then land in trouble for the rest of your life.Security means having enough and a little more to see you through your everyday life and your retirement and old age and becoming self sufficient and not depending on others.Money becomes the root of evil when it is used for self aggrandisement and to bring trouble to others, so one should be very careful how one handles money. If one has too much money then it should be used in charity and helping others who are in extreme need because their blessings will help in furthering ones spiritual evolution.

Thanks for a great response veejay. Greed is the sin here. I would like to have more money so I will have no need to stress about it, I wouldn't mind still having to save for the things I like. What I find off putting are the people who are so rich that instead of lending a hand to those who need it, will buy a diamond studded collar for the pooch or something equally useless; I find that shameful... Appreciate the response!

hi Paula, That is what all say - money is the root of all evil. It is the use of the money as money in itself can not be evil as nothing is so in isolation. We all need money to meed our needs and up to this level money is not evil for without the money would not be able to buy a coat for yourself. Now when you have money more than excess surely you would be prompted by money in the guise of your animal instinct and then all your ills have started showing their heads.
