Do People Every Grow Out of Spreading Rumours?

We all know that in the playground at school, there is a lot of "he said, she said" where both sides blame the other and there is no way of really finding out the truth, so both sides have to be punished. As we get older, people are expected to admit when they have done wrong, especially on little incidents, obviously larger things like murder people will lie to protect themselves. But on a day to day basis you expect an adult to admit to calling someone a "cow" whereas you expect a child to lie about it to avoid getting a telling off. However, my ex boyfriend text me today saying that his Mam's friend told her last night when they were drinking that last year she saw him drinking and driving and smoking. 1) He doesn't smoke. 2) He couldn't drive a year ago, he only passed his test last August/September 3) He goes over town etc and drives back, but does not touch a drop and just drinks soft drinks. 4) He has had alcohol in his car, but this has belonged to his friend and he hasn't drank any while driving. I do not understand why a grown woman about 40 would make something up like this about a 18 year old boy and tell his Mam.

One of the worst things in the world is the fact that some of your closest friends can be the ones that hurt you most...in saying this..It reminds me of a quote. My grandfather used to always say..Jenny..you must understand that "misery loves company".. ok..what does that really mean? Sometimes friends aren't happy for you when something good is in your life..especially if they don't feel like there id anything good in their life. Sometimes people say things to bring you down so they don't feel so alone. Can't let it bring you down.

I think some people just get a huge kick out of stirring up trouble for others and enjoy malicious gossiping. You would expect people to grow out of it once they leave school but some people just thrive on it and just can't stop themselves from saying something which is un-needed. I always ask myself what do they think they are achieving by saying things which are basically unfounded.
