It was actually declared on September 21, 1972. I don't know how you arrived at "36 years ago today".

24Champ wasn't talking about how many years ago the declaration happened. I, too, was puzzled why you said Martial Law declaration happened in July.

my dad always tell me that the economy back then was really good. he said we are just second to japan but now our country is near the bottom of the list.

Well the only changes is the form of our government but in terms of economy I like it during the Marcos regime than today..frankly speaking...

From what I remember, the reason why Marcos declared MArtial Law is because of the Never-Ending Killings of so many politicians and excessive use of Body guards that led to a lot of mini-wars between politicians or Family-clans. If the old generation says that the Marcos regime was a lot better economically, then i believe them. I just wander, what would happen if Marcos didn't declare Martial law? would you think we would still end up different? Have a great day

I was quite worried because there are politicians talking about a second Martial Law if the CONASS was passed. Is this true? I was still non-existent in 1972 so I don't really know how bad the impact of Martial Law is to the country except those stories that have been told. But, if it was indeed bad back then, Filipinos are rather good in coping up.

I was one year old when the martial law was declared by the late President Ferdinand Marcos. I don't have any idea what happened then but through history and news, I learned many things from it.
