I own 2 dogs. One is 3 years old and is mixed:border collie/spitz. My other is 3 1/2 years old mixed: border collie/german shephard/rotweiller. They are so smart and loyal. I hate when people say they think pure breeds are better. That is not true...depends on the dog's personality really. Which do you perfer or does it even matter?

We currently have 2 mixed breed dogs. We had to have our 12 year old rottweiler put to sleep about 2 months ago. She was the best dog. She was smart, loving & very protective. We have an 11 year old pure white german shepherd/husky mix. He has been a very bad dog lately. When he was younger, only my husband, my FIL & I could go around him. Anyone else he would bite. He's mellowed out since he's gotten older. We have to put him in our laundry room when we go away because he chews things up. He gets on the table, cupboards, etc. & eats anything in site. The other day my husband turned his back for a minute & the dog ate the brats my husband had cooked for lunch. Now he's digging holes in our yard to get out under the fence. I am at my wits end with this dog. The baby dog of the family is a nearly 8 year old pitbull, shepherd & chow mix. She is a very smart dog & stays right by my side. She has a very deep bark & you would think she is mean. She stays away from strange people, just stands back & barks at them.

I have 2 purebred dogs and one "mutt", honestly the mutt is smarter, I believe that the purebred dogs have often been overbred or inbred thus producing less than optimal intelligent breeds, but hey, I love them all the same!!

I love mixed dogs, I had them all my life. We only have one breed dog, all the other ones (4) are mixes, but I couldn't tell which kind is mixed with which. I just call them Terrier-Mixes XD. I prefer mixed Dogs over Pure Breeds. Yes, they can be Daughters/Fathers/Nephews/whatever of World Champions and whatnot, but at the end on Boxer looks exactly like the other Boxer, maybe not for the owner, but my point is they look very much the same, and what separates them from the other Dog with the same Breed is the character, and Mixed Dogs are totally unique from head to tail, and I love that, because you have a truly one of a kind dog,and you'll never find one like the one you have!

All my life I had mixed dogs because I hot them in the kennel. I have two dogs, females. I don't know the age that has the mother, but the daugter has 9 years old. Agree with you that mixed dogs are smarter. They are so cute and I love them. ;-)

If they are really dog lovers, they should not segregate the dogs as pure breed or mix breed. They are purely dogs. Whether the dog is smart and loyal depends on the quality time that the owner has spent with her. If the owner neglects her most of the time, be it a pure breed or mix breed will have no difference. She will react rebellious and unloyal to the owner.
