Not quite sure which spiders bite. Maybe it's the green ones?

There are many strange varieties of spiders this summer, and more people complaining of spider bites. I always thought it was the green ones which were the biters but now I'm not sure. I know it's not the scorpions as their bites are more dangerous, but I've seen some with big black bodies full of red spots, almost like a large ladybird with giant hairy legs. I've only seen one pure gold spider, the colour stood out as it was sat on something black, but how weird. Then there are the ones I don't get too close to so can't really investigate. Before living in Greeece I thought spiders were just black spiders. Anyone with any experience of strange looking spiders or spider bites?

when i lived in arizona, there were a bunch you had to look out for.
topmost being the black widow, and the brown recluse spiders.
i'd never been bitten, but i knew people who had,and man, that recluse leaves one nasty scar.a pit in your skin at least the size of a good jar lid.

Hi scarlet-woman, Arizona does conjure up the image of spiders somehow. I didn't realise that the black widow was a type of spider, I just thought it was a normal black spider that ate its mate. The brown one sounds hideous, it's bad enough having mosquito scars without walking round with jar lid ones on the arm.

it is.it's one of the most feared ones around there.
you pretty much want to shake out your shoes before putting them on just in case.

I believe all spiders bite. Just that some of them release more toxins than others.I know in our area the brown recluse bite is bad. My one aunt got bit by one on her neck and it took months of meds to get rid of and heal up. Here's a link that might interest you. It has spider identification section, tells which spiders are harmful when they bite, which ones are deadly, and etc. It also has pictures, and what to do if and when you get bit. I find it's a very handy site.

Hi JoyfulOne, well I must say, that's a cheery thing to send me. I will wait until tomorrow to open it as don't want spider dreams later, anyway I'm sure it will amuse my son to look at spider types and identify what we've seen. Hopefully we don't have this brown recluse thing here, it's bad enough having scorpions. My few friendly spiders which catch the flying pests for me never come near me and try to bite, they only seem to move a few yards to start a new web and have now become our pets!

Would you believe, if I see a spider I run in the other direction so I don't get a very good look at them. I'm not sure I've ever seen a green spider. I know there are brown ones in my area that can be dangerous and black widows are very poisonous. All I know is I don't like any of them...lol!

Hello Annie, running sounds like a good idea, as long as they are outside. I certainly wouldn't want nasty ones hiding in dark corners or under my bed. I don't think I've come across any brown spiders and wouldn't be able to identify a black widow. I hate anything like that that runs too fast to catch and it will annoy me for ages wondering exactly where they are lurking.
