Global warming: Could the damage be repaired?

Is global warming here to stay, or could humans repair the damage to avoid aggravation of the existing situation? It's really heartbreaking to see pretty scenery slowly fading away, or lush greenery being chopped down, and clear blue sea being topped with slick. I wonder, don't humans love the Earth? Is it greed that causes all these calamities? To me, these aren't natural disasters - these are human made. Is it going to stop? How would you, as Earth citizen, help?

well, i guess we have already reached a state which is way beyond repair. even,if we start doing something religiously now,it might take decades to see its impact. however late it might be, we should definitely make a beginning now atleast. otherwise, we will see the end rather sooner than later.

Yup, I certainly agree with you. The damage done to Earth is beyond repair. We could merely control it, and hopefully at least reduce the damage that will occur as a result of unscrupulous and irresponsible practices.

GREED is right everybody has to ruin everything to make more money. I doubt it is within our power to stop the global warming as heart wrenching as it is. I try to do my part in staying green ,only eating organic and trying to see the wonders of the world before some big tycoon decides the grand canyon would make a great resort. I am by far a tree huger but, every one that comes down ,2 houses seem to pop up.What in the world is wrong with these greedy,in the name of science people. If there is a creator,I would imagine they have left us to our fate. We deserve it look at all we have ruined in the name of MONEY,GREED and Science ect..

Climate change is here to stay and always has been. There are a number of causes for Global Warming (which only lasts a relatively short time), the main one is actually the distance between the earth and the sun which varies on a 100,000 year cycle. The closer it gets you get global warming, the further away it is then you get an ice-age. Although Carbon Dioxide actually contributes very little to greenhouses (reputed by some to cause global warming) what is necessary is to halt the decrease in tropical rain forests (the earth's lungs), and increase the amout of trees back to the way they were. Incidentally the biggest greenhouse gas is actually water vapour (clouds) followed by methane. CO2 is very much lower and most of that is natural, man made CO2 contributes practically nothing to greenhouse gases. I also worry about the accumulation of windfarms and wave generators, because they could have effects on the jet stream (windfarms) and ocean currents (wave generators), and could actually cause a lot of the problems which greenhouse gases are reputed to cause.

HI Eskimo, you're looking it at a different perspective, which I like :) You don't put the blame of humans but planetary movements or changes in the universe instead. In other words, climate changes are bound to happen; it's just a matter of time. Maybe I might add that humans have accelerated this process through their activities. Is that correct? :) Yes, we worry about this. What would the lives of our future generations be like? We're running low on resources, but development activities remain high. Would our great-great-great grandchildren need to carry portable oxygen tanks to help them breathe some day? Would they not be able to bask in the sun anymore? Sad future huh...

Yes we can.But it needs a lot of hands almost everyone of take attention of it and it is our part to repair. We need to take the necessary actions and of course all of the government should agree to fight for stopping it unitedly.

only if you made everything artificial. global warming was an inevitability. over many years the earths axes shift in such a way that we move from ice age to a warmer planet every Xmillion number of years. we've just helped speed it up

From all the 13 responses before this, we can conclude that global warming could not be changed. It will hit us; it's just a matter of time it happens. However, it is humans (their greed, their ignorance) that have caused climatic changes to speed up so rapidly instead of millions of years. There's nothing we can do about what had been damaged; it would take millions more years for Antartic to regain its beautiful scenery, for forests to be green again. For now, we could hope, pray and educate. ...for a better world. For all.

Global warming is an effect of lot of things, its not just an effect of greenhouse gases we humans have created. Humans have been around for a very short time considering the age of earth and can not possibly affect the atmosphere so much so quickly. Earth undergoes changes in a cyclic manner and there are evidences to prove that such climate changes have happened periodically in the past. The dramatic rise in temperature and then sudden collapse into an ice age. Its all part of the cycle. Solar cycle which affects us every 11 years also has a part to play especially in terms of la Nina and El Nino, which affects weather patterns around the globe. So don't be so pessimistic about things, because if you are worried about this then think about say a billion years from now, the sun would have been so bright that earth will not be hospitable for humans to survive, and 3 billion years down the line, Andromeda and our galaxy would be colliding with each other, so where would we go then? ...lols... Global warming is happening , but its not entirely due to us, it is good to move to better non-polluting solutions, but there is no guarantee that even then we will not enter an ice age.

I don't think the damage could be repaired. It is hard for humans to repair the damage that have done for so long and the recovery would not be enough because human technology cannot go back, it keeps on improving and nobody can stop it even the man itself.

I think we, humans, surely have to take some responsibilities of the change of climate due to the rapid growth in our population and the activities we are doing from day to day. So, to "repair" what we have done, the best way is we stop doing what we are doing. That includes everything from going to work, go online on Internet, watch movies, playing basketballs, etc, etc. What I am saying is that as long as we are on the Earth, the climate will change, one way or another. Instead of asking whether we should "repair" it, I think the real question is whether we are going to "damage" it as irresponsible as before and then whether we are going to adapt to the changes. Trying to "change" the nature is not going to be very fruitful.

Gloal warming is a general problem, the people come to reconize its importance. If we would like to action for green global, I believe that it will be better. Otherwise, the problem will be done via everyone try.

That we can never really tell for certain...i guess we can only delay it by being responsible with how we live in our environment...and by not taking for granted the benefits we get out from our natural resources and do our part to make our place better to live in...either way, I believe this world won't last forever...I believe in faith, and i guess that's where we can have eternal life...so i don't really worry much on how this world would end up anymore...

I believe humans love this earth, but he love money for more. They would do anything to get it. And that is what we see right now as a result. To repair the world might be imposible. We will face the human growth population. But to reduce the damage there is a way. And i`m sure most of you know how to do it. `so keep live in green(earth friendly).
