Surviving the Typhoon Season in the Philippines

Recently, in one of my classes, I was discussing with students the beauty of the Philippines, its flora and fauna and its many forests in the past before the days of deforestation. We know that the Philippines has lush green forests with huge trees many decades ago but now, a lot of our forests are gone. With deforestation, flash floods are becoming an ever increasing phenomena in our country, even in towns that are not flood prone during the storm season. And we know that the rainy season here brings untold loss both to life and property. My fellow Pinoy mylotters, what do you think we can do to 1) survive and thrive during the storm season?; 2) what can we do to contribute to protect our forests and thus, preventing more calamities? What do you think?

Hi Agilang Pinoy, I think for this storm seasons, we need to prepare all emergency kits like extra food, extra batters, transistor radio, emergency lamps and water. For those who live near the mountains or the rivers or sea, if there are alerts to evacuate the area, leave the vicinity immediately and do not ever think of staying just to save your belongings since many of those who are killed are those who does not heed the government's advice to evacuate. For the forests, we need to have stricter laws that will protect our environments from illegal loggers and illegal kaingeros who destroy the forest. And those who will be implementing the law should not have any business that is engaged in logging or other businesses that need lumbers.
