The total Eclipse of the Sun

How are you feeling about all the media talking the way they are about this. Since it will be on Wed of this week. I just read an article saying that if you pay $1600 you can see it from a plane. Oh give me a break. Anyway to make a buck.. plus now all the superstitions are coming in, saying world war could break out, or a death of some leader... Read for yourself, http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090720/sc_afp/scienceastronomyeclipseasiatourismsuperstition Is any one wondering what it will do to Earth instead? Also what about Mars passing the closest it has since recording history of the planet movements. What will happen then? Or will we get some Earth activity like earth quakes some volcanoes and we deal with those and then what? I just don't like the fear factor being used to manipulate the human race. I would rather watch how the animals react to know for sure what or could be.

I saw a total eclipse about 15 years ago and none of those things happened. It's a regular cycle that occurs every few years. We were told not to look directly at the sun but to cut a circle in a piece of paper and watch it from that. We were told if we looked directly at the eclipse it could burn the retinas. I wouldn't pay $1600 to watch it from an air plane. I'll watch it here on the ground if it's visible where I live.

I'm just jealous, I won't be able to see it where I live (north east united states). I can't see the advantage of seeing the eclips fr4om a plane, unloess of course it's over cast and cloudy, but either way, I certainly wouldn't pay 1600 bucks to do it, I'll just wait for the next one to be visibale here, sometime in the next 7 years I think. But no, they don't cause violence, they don't cause birth defects, they don't cause war or any of that, it is nothing more than a giant shadow being cast on a particular part of the earth. Also, the whole mars thing, this isn't the closest. A few years ago it passed in a bit closer than it will this time. There really isn't much to see with the naked eye durring this time, it won't really look any different than it normaly does with out a telescope, you may notice a little more detail in a telescope, but I would imagine you could do so now anyways as this isn't something that happenes suddenly in one night, it is a slow progression as it orbits. We are not going to notice any effects, no earth quakes, wierd weather, tidal waves, or any of the other horror stories "doom and gloom" criers are talking about.

I wanted to let you know that I looked up the Mars thing online and realize that it is a hoax for that to happen this next month. I guess none of us are immune to the hoaxes online. I just want to thank you for giving me the reason to research it and make sure of what I was saying.. So people No Mars isn't going to be getting close to earth at all this next month. Just wanted to correct that.

I actually haven't heard much about this. I am surprised! I guess that if it happens I won't see it. I would like too,but I live in North America. I would not pay $1600 to see it as I am sure that if you can see it from a plane then you could see it from the ground. I hate people who use things like this to make money.

The total solar eclipse on 22nd July is yet another one. I have been witness to many total solar eclipses since the last 3 decades or so, and everytime I hear that this is one exclusive one. I dont really know in what sense. Maybe it is the position of the Earth or Moon in the orbit which makes it different and exclusive from each other. However, this particular one is said to be very 'cruel' which will cause unseen devastations on earth. I dont really beleive in such words, but it is still interesting to wait and watch. I believe that any natural calamity which may cause on July 22 or after, is due to the misdeeds we have done with Nature. It is high time we realise how we have exploited Nature beyond its sustainance and take immediate corrective measures. All said and done, as I know, it is HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO VIEW THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE WITH THE NAKED EYE. BEWARE !!

I received an e-mail regarding Tsunami during eclipse. The scientist have recorded four spots some where near Japan. The e-mail says, the Tsunami will be bigger from the one before which was started at Bandar Acheh, Indonesia. Countries which will get affected will be Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, ect.

This fear is being used to manipulate that human race and that is just wrong. This is what religions do to their people. This eclipse is going to be just like every other, so people do not have to worry. What people should be worried about is how hot the sun is going to get in the next few days. The weather is terrible right now. Insanely hot here in California, my advice to everyone is wear sunscreen and protective clothing. Oh, and wear sunglasses if you are going to watch the eclipse. You can and will ruin your eyes if you stare at the sun too long. In fact, if you can watch it from your local observatory that would be the best option. Have a fun summer everyone.

i'm not scared. they've had these scares before and we are all still here alive and well. To be honest...it sounds like they are playing on people's superstitions and fears and getting a lot of $$ from them. If it is true well...what can we do. Like you said....we'll deal the best we can.

I just read that article on Yahoo before you had posted it. I don't believe anything will happen. They say there will be some magnetic force that causes these disasters. But just how big are these magnetic forces? I suppose we'll find out if some ACTUALLY does happen. I don't think anything will - except for peopling being scared for no reason. I went to a Wikipedia article about today's eclipse and it said that someone wrote a blog entry that stated he believed (based on a theory) there will be some tectonic shifts in Southern Japan which will result in a major Tsunami. The shift will be caused by the combined gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon.

I haven't really been up with the news here lately. I didn't even know that there was a Eclipse of the sun coming. LOL I guess that shows just how much I know. LOL I now know what is happening now and thanks to your discussion. I will watch for it. I agree the country needs to focus on us and not worry about what is going on over there.

we dont have to problemm the beliefs and traditions we have. the most critical with this kind of situations is when somebody make out of it some hidden agenda. they who are opportunist, are those we should avoid.
