I can't think of anything good to read. I like books like House of Sand and Fog, White Oleander, just books with really gripping characters and complex plots. I'm not into things like Angels and Demons, etc....

I've been reading books on the middle east this summer, and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini seems like it matches your preferences, you should give it a try

I love Khaleid Hosseini, I already own Kite Runner. As for vampires I'm just not that into them. I might try the glass castle though.

Have you tried reading paranormal romance books? The obvious is Stephanie Meyers 'Twilight' Richelle Mead - Vampire Acadamy J R Ward - Black Dagger Brotherhood books Charlaine Harris - True Blood I'm a big reader but about a year ago I discovered paranormal romance and I am still amazed at the amount these characters compel me. They provide for the most complex plots and interesting, intense characters I've ever come across.

Twilight was great, i read it before all the hype, the movie was kind of disappointing though....

Have you read "The Glass Castle"? If not, I'd recommend that one if you liked White Oleander. Not really the same, but it's another pretty crazy story except this one is nonfiction.

Hi there Blue Hibiscus! I love White Oleander. Other books that I would recommend are: Memoirs of a Geisha, Madame Chleo's Girls and The Bridges of The Madison County.

Memoirs of a Geisha was pretty good, I have to agree there.

Have you read Jack Of Ravens? I keep on forgetting who wrote the book but its a really good book. Quite the collision of fantasy and actual history. I also recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell-- it mixes both fantasy and actual history as well.. :-)
