I had a total knee replacement and have questions...has anyone else had one?

I had a total knee replacement on June 11th. Everything seemed to be going well until I fell on July 5th. I tripped over something my BF left by the door and fell on my left side (the side the knee was replaced on). I thought that I might have broken something, but was able to struggle up onto my feet and was able to walk. I am currently in physical therapy and last Thursday was horrible!!! I managed to walk out of the therapists office, but my knee started to swell and by Friday morning I couldn't walk or bend the knee. I was in misery until Sunday when I was finally able to walk with a bit less pain, and today I hurt through the bone on the left side of my left knee. Is this normal? How long will the pain last from the replacement? I am living with ice packs morning and night, and pain pills in between. I am wondering if I could have fractured the small bone that is beside the tibia. Nothing else has swollen, just the area around the knee. It is also very tender to the touch. I know that the exercises that the jerk at the PT had me do helped aggravate the situation. (he had me peddling on the stationary bike and then walking my left foot up and down the wall) I am rather concerned because I would like this knee to function as well as possible. I hope that anyone who may have had a knee replacement can help me out. I read everything I could on the subject on line...but it hasn't helped much. It mostly says "don't fall after the surgery". DUH! Like I enjoy pain and falling. Especially since the area I fell on is cement and doesn't have any cushioning on it. Thanks in advance for any help.

you should've called your doctor right away - when I fell after my rotator cuff surgery I had a TERRIBLE time getting up and NOT use my right arm (yes, of course I fell on the right side) AND it was Sunday morning, so I couldn't call him until Monday morning - but I did call my regular doctor after hours and he (probably the nurse actually) suggested I just put it back in the sling for the rest of the day and call the surgeon the next day. so pick up that phone and call your surgeon!

well, I still have some occasional pain in the shoulder, but the surgeon said that if it had been discovered SOONER, it might've made a fuller recovery. Or, to put it another way, I probably tore it in the early 1980's, but didn't have it discovered and operated on until 2005. The surgeon was very surprised with how much strength I had in the arm until he heard how long I'd been suffering and how many rounds of PT I'd had.
