normally from where i came from we eat using a spoon and a fork. i guess that goes the same for majority of the people from different parts of the world. other people use chopsticks! although chopsticks are very inconvenient, i do know how to use them. nonetheless, i would prefer using spoon and fork any day. anyway, some people from my country use only their hands to eat. they say, that it's a lot better to eat using just their hands. food tastes better according to them if they use this very ancient method of eating than using a spoon and fork. i don't know if that makes sense to you but that is what they believe in. i myself sometimes join in the spirit of camaraderie at times by joining in with them. it is indeed fun to eat using your hands. how about you? can you eat using just your hands or would you prefer a spoon and fork or a chopstick? what do you prefer?

Of course I can eat just by my bare hand, I think most people also have done the same thing. Can you imagine when we use spoon and fork to eat hot dogs or hamburgers wow, that's new. So, it all depend on the situation and the kind food we eat. For me, I use spoon and fork more then other method. Oh yeah, if we talk about pizza, some people eat it using fork, knife and plate, but for me straight with hand is more efficient, as long as our hand is clean

hi flaredust! first off let me apologize first. i'm sorry if the topic wasn't very clear to you. uhmmm, let me clarify just a few things. when i said eating with your bare hands i wasn't referring to eating hamburgers, chicken, french fries, etc. in short, i was wasn't referring to finger foods. obviously you need your hands to eat them, how else should you do it? actually, what i was trying to ask was that if you eat with your bare hands during every meal? the reason why i asked is because there are some parts in my country where people are very traditional. they rarely or never use spoon and fork when eating. they say that when they use their just their hands to eat food tastes better and it's more fun to eat that way. and also, they say it's a form of camaraderie and friendship if you eat along with them too with bare hands. it wouldn't look good on you if you ask for a spoon and fork while all of them are eating with their hands.

Eating hamburgers or hot dogs with a knife and fork is normal for me. I also can eat grapes with a knife and fork. Of course if I'm someplace like McDonald's, I must use my hand, but I hold my hamberger with the paper it came in.

wat can i say? i am a filipina and i came from very humble beginnings.back in the younger days all the members in the family would eat in out bare hands.i always have that finger lickin' feel while eating to literally speak.even as i am now in australia where people observe table etiquette seriously i still eat with my bare hands.of course i can only get away with eating with my barehands at home.my husband constantly reminds me to never do it on public esp. when we dine in a posh restaurant because it would be a total embarrassment.

In India it is most common that hands are used to eat. It is the culture or norm you can say. But I don't think food will taste better just because one uses hands to eat! Food will taste the same whether one uses hands or spoons to eat. But spoons and forks are also very common here in India. Usually hands are used for meals and spoons and forks are used for breakfasts and snacks. I guesss it depends on the food one prepares. Rotis, Chapatis etc can't be eaten properly using spoons and forks! So hands are best for such food items. I use hand to eat and I also use spoons and forks. Usually it depends on the type of food. Happy mylotting!

We Filipinos are used to eating with our bare hands but of course with art. Well, I don't know how to describe that but we at least try not to appear messy when we eat with our hands. But if we attend a gathering or in public we eat using fork and spoon. I don't know how to eat with chopsticks.

I eat most of the dishes with my hands. I can very well eat with a spoons and fork too according to the menu. I do not know to eat with a chopstick at all. Of all the options given I feel hands are the most convenient, but again it depends on what I am eating.

This all has to due with culture. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just different. I take after my dad who learned as a child to never touch his food with his hands, No exceptions. My mom will eat things like fruit, chicken legs, hamburger or sometimes even take away pizza with her hands, but that's about all. Me: If it was from a shared dish, I couldn't eat if other hands were in it. I just couldn't. I find it really sick to eat foods that others have touched at the table especially after they have touched their mouth. yuck. It's not hygienic. It's like kissing them. Regarding chopsticks, I can and do use them while eating Chinese or Japanese foods. I can eat with chopsticks just as well as with a knife and fork. For many foods chops sticks are much more efficient.

I've eaten with my hands on occasion, I just don't like it. Maybe I'm a snob, but I like to eat with utensils. Sometimes at home I'll eat sushi with my hands if all my chopsticks are in the dishwasher, but I really prefer not to. Hmmm Time to make some sushi?

indeed kissing is unhygienic but it's still good, right? oh sorry about that we're not talking about kissing here are we? i understand what you're saying. basically culture has everything to do with what we eat and how we eat it. i am with you though on not eating shared food. even if it's from my parents or siblings, i never eat their leftovers or something that's already in their plate. well, you should try eating your food with your hands. and i'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. why don't you try it just for the heck of an experience. i'm not taking about burger, chicken, french fries, pizza, or any other finger foods. try eating a something messy life spaghetti or lasagna! i'm sure you'll have a great time doing it!

I am an Asian, I definitely gonna use chopsticks. I knew some religion use hands to pick up their food, and I can live with that. No matter how primitive that culture it is, I prefer use chopstick or fork. They seems are savage, but that is the way they live, we have to respect that.

Hello tomjoad this is checkmail and basically we eat by our hands in our culture as well as it is a tradition too.Though we often eat some foods in restaurants and home with spoons and forks, chopsticks are totally news to us, yet to get practice. Well i too like to eat with my hands as it tastes more as compared to spoon, fork or chopsticks.

I like to use another thing that you did not say you use to eat :D LOL I use spoon, fork and Knife :D This reminds me of a restaurant I've been to that did not have knives, I requested one but the said we dont have and I was given one big knife that is usually used for meat :P LOL it was a chines restaurant I use my hands sometimes to eat things like burger, bread...etc. The reason that the food as you say tastes good is cos the hands will produce some enzymes when you eat with them to help the digestion process. Thx & happy MyLotting

hi shery! i totally forget about the knife! i rarely use the knife when eating though. only when i eat in some fancy restaurants. i guess that's why it slipped my mind. i sure haven't tried eating with a big knife though. that must be fun! i'll try it sometimes. another thing, i'm in the medical field and i didn't even know that there was such an enzyme in you hands. i do know that your skin has substances that protects you from infection and it also as resident bacteria. i didn't know that it has enzymes that actually helps you in digestion. i might look into that and do some research. some cool information you have there! thanks!

I love to eat only using my hands. Its easier for me because I have trouble manipulating forks and knives, due to my disability. I love Ethiopian food because they are no forks involved, you just take bread and roll it up in whatever food you want. Perfect for girls with poor motor skills.

I usually use a fork and spoon, I learned to use chopsticks when I lived in Japan which was kind of comical because I would go into a restaurant and use the chopsticks, only to look up and see people giggling at me while they used a fork and spoon, but am glad I learned how. I've used just my hands before, sometimes it's a little more convenient say, when I'm driving or when something isn't too messy, it's quicker. I don't know about the food tasting better, I guess I never really paid attention. Might sound funny but one day I decided to put all of my salad into a zip lock bag and put a little balsamic vinegar in it. I forgot to put a fork and plate with it and just ate the salad out of the zip lock. (good thing I remembered the napkins!)but it tasted ok to me!

In my culture, we eat using hands, even rice, and I must say, I prefer using hands, but when I eat salad, steak, of course , I will using spoon, fork and knife. I don't find it weird to use hands to eat, but its not easy for a beginner to eat rice with hands. it need skills, like using chopsticks, but chopsticks is much harder.

Oh yes, I can eat using my hands, especially when I'm eating grilled fish or crabs and shrimps. When we go to the province and go on picnics, we do enjoy eating with our hands, while the food were being layed down on top of the table with banana leaves. From time to time it's wpmderful eating with our hands.

eating with your hands is a cool way to bond with your peers. and yes im quite expert on it. Whenever we have this boodle fight with the team ( where food is serve and spread on the table without plates and utensils. Just clean sheet of plastic or banana leaves), we just dig in and scoop with our hands ( which must be keep clean of course). Here the tip: scoop with your fingers not palm. make it into some solid ball before you put it in your mouth. Don't spill unless you want to eat like a pig.

I can eat with my hands, but of course not that often. I find that eating with hands is more freedom, and things get more relaxing. I normally eat some local food with hands. Believe it or not, I think it makes the food more tasty. LOL
