Something of course the press will not cover is the senate is debating whether or not to make it legal for someone with a concealed weapons permit to carry across all state lines. I don't think it will pass with all these democrats but I feel it should be passed and you should be allowed to carry across state lines if you have one from your given state. For instance, If I go from pa to North Carolina If I'm carrying it thru Maryland and DC I'm illeagal then I get to Virginia and it's ok again, I think this has to be changed and allowed, I'm all about the second amendment.

As all out bizzarre as this is going to sound comming from me, I'm not such a fan of this bill. It certainly isn't the worst thing they could do by a long shot, but I am stil hesitant. Why you ask? though I am to, "all about the 2nd amendment", very much so in fact, but I am also all about the 10th amendment and this seems to me at least to be flirting with violating it. That being said, I haven't seen the actual text of the bill so I don't know exactly how they word it, wether or not it is up to the individual states to allow concealed carry through their state, what federal laws it is striking down, is it FORCING a state to allow a concealed carrier to carry through a state or simply ALLOWING it if the state chooses to, etc. I'm still kinda on the fence with this one.

Thats what I get out of it, just to make it easier to continue to carry on interstates and what not.

Well Miss Interupted, if that is the case, than I don't have a problem with the bill. I do have a problem with the federal government forcing mandates on a state that it doesn't technicly have the authroity to. Again, I just haven't seen the bill.

Actually, they did cover it and I understand the law didn't pass. I'm glad it didn't because I think states' rights should win out in a case like this. Annie

I saw it didn't pass, the more I think about it I guess you do have to be careful of opeing the door to tramping on states rights, I just wish there was a way to make interstate transporting easier for someone with a concealed weapons permit for self protection, like I said earlier the ones that apply for one go thru background checks and are not the criminals.

As I understand the law now, when I go to another state where I do not have a concealed weapons permit, I merely 'unconceal' my weapon. I put it in my trunk or whatever is required to be in compliance with that state's law. I am not sure I understand the actual purpose of this bill.

Basically yes, for instance, I have my weapons permit in Pa, I travel to the beach or somthing in Maryland, It is now void even though my county sheriff did their extensive background check and everything technically I can't have it loaded while traveling thru that state but once in Virginia then Im good again and so on.
