Who has the patience?

I used to have satellite tv and had a wide range of channels available. There was always a way to find some interesting programs. We are changing back to basic cable - belt tightening issues :) - and now I only have a handful of the regular channels. OK so I don't really watch much tv, but I happened to turn the tv on just after lunch and I was immediately greeted with the worse programing I have always been exposed to. Soap operas, ridiculous live shows, reruns of shows that should have run in the first place.... I guess the best thing I found was some kids programs but even those were...ah.... not that good. And I thought television at night was not that good. I don't think I had watched during the day for quite some time. But hey, everyone is different, so I'd like to know. DO you watch tv during the day? - providing you have only basic channels. - What do you enjoy watching during the day? DO you have the patience?

On occassions when I'm home during the day I do watch TV, ok if I'm home it's one even if I'm not paying attention to it (unless I'm sleeping) - VIDIOS - I have a great selection and some I've watched 100 times and will another 100 but basic TV in my opinion offers pretty much nothing worth my time.

Yes, watching a video will work for me. Like you, hubby tends to turn on the tv as soon as he gets home, even if he's not really watching. Me, I never turn it on LOL

It's kinda silly for me as I actually 'watch' very little tv - it's sound in the background, seems I would listen to the radio or cds but I don't, something about looking up from the computer screen from time to time and seeing 'faces' :)

Yes, I do the same thing when hubby has the tv on. Just glance at it over the monitor. But if he's not home, I don't even remember about turning the tv on.

I don't watch television at night as a rule and I never ever watch it in the day. I have patience for a lot of things, but the boob tube is not one of them.

ALways twins LOL I'm not that great for tv either, but even worse with such awful programing. I usually don't even turn the tv. It's hubby when he comes from work that does the honors, but I did today and was really amazed at how many programs can run at the same time LOL

Hi arkaf! Honestly speaking I do not enjoy watching TV either in day time (it is not possible practically to see in day time, because I remain at my work place) or at night. I also do not like silly soaps and unrealistic 'reality shows' (at your place it may be in different languauge, here also many foreign programmes are being copied and presented to suit the local audiance). I prefer to read instead something, on which I can lay my hands or if possible, I sit on computer to do mylotting. I enjoy much here on mylot because I can do something creative, instead of me sitting in front of my TV and doing nothing. dpk

Anything - in my opinion only, of course - is more creative and interesting than watching day time television. I'm ok with watching a program or two at night, specially since it's a time to site down with hubby, but never again will I turn it on during the day LOL

I agree with you that watching TV in someone's company is better than watching it alone at day time. There are other creative things to do.

Prime time is disgusting these days on the local channels. Crimes, killings, s*e*x, blood, guts, gore, etc... sorry I just don't want to sit and watch that for hours.. I can tune into the news and see all that! There are no funny sitcoms on these days - sorry Two and a Half Men is just disgusting.. one theme and one theory only is their storylines. During the day, I admit to watching favorite soaps but other than that, I might catch a court room show for the laughs but other than that... the talk shows again, are mostly about s*e*x in one way or another. Yeah, tv has really dropped its levels over the years. If I see one more reality show coming on, I'll scream!!! That is why over the last year I have been watching sales and buying the box sets of the old sitcoms and shows from the past decades - 60's and 70's mainly - back when TV was good, fun and a family affair. I just pop those in and have a fun and enjoyable, laughing evening! I moved and didn't connect cable.. I get the local channels and can catch the news and Dancing With the Stars and Survivor and Secrets Reveal of a Magician.. other than that.. I usually don't turn it on to much!

Yes, one is certainly better off purchasing cds from old sitcoms and shows. Because what they have now is a crime. I often compare this to when back home we had a dictatorship. I know people call me crazy, but we used to have the same kind of mindless programs and soccer matches etc on tv. The idea being if you get so involved in those silly shows you won't really be thinking about your reality. You won't be studying anything new. You won't be able to educate yourself. And you won't be able to fight us, or even realize what we're doing long enough to get upset. That's how I feel about it now it's better to keep people ignorant and living their lives trough the lives of their favorite shows and stars in those shows. I beats the c*ap out of looking into our lives and see the mess the world is in. OH well......

Both my kids are cops so I hear what goes on in that world all the time..I worry about them daily, so I sure as heck don't want to spend time watching it on TV!! I watch the news and see it all, I sure ain't gonna sit in front of the tv and watch more! Especially since it all turns out "find and dandy and everyone is happy and all is right with the world at the end of the hour, all crimes solved" when in real life.. it isn't. IF it isn't killing and crime and murders.. it is about s*e*x on both drama and sitcoms and after watching it constantly... it's like I've done it all day.. don't want to do it anymore!!! And if not those two... it is reality... that started out okay and interesting.. not scripted and ordinary people instead of the self righteous made up, perfect people the stars are these days...but that went into over drive and now they are just getting stupid. Then theres the action and blood guts and gore of action and thrillers...sorry, seeing a guy being blown up multiples times and still just walking away with a fwe scrapes, is just a stupid waste of time. ANd the gore from thrillers...just don't see how anyone could enjoy watching that. I like to watch TV for the entertainment aspect. I don't want to have to pay so close attention I dont' miss something, I want to laugh, I want to enjoy the show and I want to think about it much..I want my mind to rest and relax while I watch something good, fun and entertaining. That just isn't happening in the TV world today.. so since the past had it, and the past is accessible in this case.. I will travel to the past and have a ton load of fun, entertainment, laughs, giggles, and even some silliness and just enjoy the show!

I am not watching tv at all. And yes, tv is bad in the day time, sometimes I watch the channel with the news, and sometimes a couple of shows that I like like the dog whisperer. I thought that satellite tv was cheaper than cable tho. What happen?

Hubby is the tv watcher in our home. I don't really pay much attention, but sometimes he finds some nice programs. he likes historical programs and II world war programs, so I actually end up watching some of those. But during the day???? Never again LOL

Don't get me wrong. There are good programs in here, but mostly in the evening. During the day .... not so good. Or at least not the ones we have. We are saving money because we're sharing with my inlaws and cut out satellite bills, but this means that we only have the channels they choose. I'm sure that there might be some good daytime programs, we just don't have them I guess.

I thought Canadian tv was much better than American tv along with the British tv. I kept hearing that non stop for a while. A least you have some nice history shows that you can enjoy.

Summer is a bad time to try to watch any decent television. It's soap operas, talk shows for the most part on basic cable and so called free television. With the soaps you could watch them once a week and know what is going on. I stopped watching them years ago. They got so they were all the same day after day. I might turn the Television of for Rachael Ray or the Dr. once in a while. Evening Television in the summer is full of reruns and those reality shows that are just like dealing with spoiled teenagers in high school. I really don't watch much daytime television because I don't have even basic cable jut that converter box and some times It won't pick up programs during the day.

I don't watch TV at all. Between two jobs, working at home, gardening and taking care of my pets and myself....I don't have a time....and I am not crazy for TV....I don't have enough time to do what I want to do on Internet anyway....

ANd you are a very wise woman. There really isn't anything in there that is worth the time. At night, there are a few series that I like to follow, but if Idon't it's fine for me too :)

I used to watch TV in the daytime when I am not working. Basic channels are fine with me as the programs are "new" to me. Even some repeat ones are welcome. I do have the habit of watching tv aimlessly, just to kill boredom.

I suppose it can be a way to kill boredom. But personally I prefer to kill my boredom in any other way. I really didn't like my experience with day time television LOL
