Is it strange for men to crochet?

Crocheting has often been considered more of a feminine activity. I'm a well adjusted 23 year old male who enjoys crocheting periodically. Is that strange?

I am so glad to hear a future crocheter in the works! Man or woman it doesn't matter. If you go to www.youtube.com and do a search on crochet there are many good videos. It is much easier to "see" how its done. Don't give up, once you get going you'll be in second heaven.

I dont personally know any guys that do, but I think it's wonderful to embrace any form of art!! Whether you are male or female, it's not fair to jsut say Oh this is female only. Anyway- I would like to introduce you (via this post lol) to Drew, the Crochet Dude. :) He's awesome! http://blog.thecrochetdude.com/

It is not strange, crocheting is really fun and why should only women have fun?? I think you must have heard of Kaffe Fassett who has made crafts to great art. He is using bright colors and makes beautiful things. I am not sure if he is crocheting but definitely knitting. I just made a search and found his homepage. It is a good thing to have an unusual name, it is easy to find on the Internet.

I don't think so. I mean, in some countries, there are places where the main industry is knitting, and so both men and women do so. And soldiers knit to pass time. So I don't see why a guy can't crochet to pass time - it's a good way to keep your hands busy while you are doing other things.

Crocheting is normally done by female, I think its cool for both sexes. There are several male crochet designers on Etsy. I am a member of a meet up club, and we have a male member.

No more that it is strange for an internationally celebrated artist and university professor to hand embroider. Do what you like.

I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old and I have seen alot of men crocheting. My father once crocheted a sweater for his teddy bear when he was a little boy. I am alo a friend of some gentlemen on MYSPACE who crochets by number. I have no idea how he does it but by the pictures it is beautiful. It is not strange at all.

No more strange then my ex brother in law who knitted. He had an accident where his hand got caught in a mixer...and the safety switch was too far away to turn it off....well it mangled his hand. His therapy was to knit....and he knitted some of the most beautiful....beautiful sweaters! So if you can crochet...go for it!

Men who crochet is a natural to me as breathing! What ya talking about "strange"?!?!?! :-) :-) :-) I know almost as many men as I do women who crochet and knit. My own brother has taken up beading since he's become permanently disabled to help support his family. He used to crochet but the investment time with beads was way less than with yarn... but the beads are just so pretty! :-) :-) Again, no... you're not strange. You may want to look into joining the Crochet Guild of America - you'll be able to find many male companions that will agree with you that men crocheting is not strange. :-) :-)
