Me and my mobile

I still find it hard to understand why the mobile has become a necessity. True, it keeps us in touch with people at all times, but didn't people survive before the mobile came into being? Are people more efficient now than before? I doubt it. Its become a common phenomenon for people to lie about their whereabouts and also make excuses to avoid personal contacts. Though I welcome technological advances, unless it has a positive impact on us, it serves to only destroy what was earlier, a better world.
