Would you buy or use a used or second hand mattress for your bed?

I was just wondering on this today. Would you buy or accept a used mattress for yourself or someone in your family? I mean, you can get some incredible deals at a thrift store or second hand store, or you could also receive a used mattress from someone such as Freecycle or a friend, neighbor, or co-worker. But here is the thing...you really don't know the history of that mattress. You don't know why that person is getting rid of the mattress. Did it have bedbugs in it, lice, did someone stain it or have an accident in it? Or worse, did someone die on it? I have thought about getting one before but something always stops me. I would think if someone had died on it then it carry residual energy from that or possibly be haunted. I have enough problems in my life let alone something supernatural like that. And besides, I would feel gross because like I said I don't know the exact history that bed has gone through or what germs, bacteria, or parasites might be living in it. Yuck! So, has anyone ever thought about this before like I have? Am I being a germophobe or overly cautious? I just think that I would prefer to save up enough to buy a brand new mattress for myself. I really think I would sleep better at night knowing it was my own stuff I was sleeping in and not someone elses. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Exactly what you said. You don't know what has happened on that mattress. I would never and will never get a mattress that is used. That is just disgusting. I know there are people out there that do that but come on the mattress forms around ones body and leaves those dents in them. I don't want to have to try and put a new dent in to my body. I would go brand new never been touched and never a floor model.

Hey! I once had no choice but to get a floor display one. They were out and they called and asked me . Said it was like new and since there was a deal they were all out , and they gave another 100 off , so it kinda was a deal . I just steam cleaned it

When our tenant moved to a new house, they gave us their mattress because they can't bring it to travel. We accept it since our tenants has been with us for so many years. I was the one who use it in replacement of my old mattress but a week after sleeping on that mattress, I had some discomfort of as if someone is sleeping beside me when there's none. I decided to get rid of it and go back to my old mattress. The mattress given to us where placed in the spare room and strange enough, most of those who sleep with it felt the same. One day, we are surprised when my little sister asked my mom on whose the woman sleeping on the mattress. Puzzled, my mom check who it was but found no woman. Right there and then, we decided to throw the mattress but we cut it so that no one will be able to use it anymore. After this event, we all agreed not to accept things given to us without really getting to the bottom of the story.

Hello! If it was a nice one that was alot of money then maybe. I would have to look at it myself . they sometimes have the really good kind in a penny saver , and the person never used it . I am sure it was steam cleaned and all . You know I think goodwill cleans them and restuffs old ones , and then will sell for cheap. I would never get one on the junk yard.

I'm going to have to agree with you here. I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with buying a second hand mattress, I just wouldn't personally feel comfortable sleeping in one. I mean, really, who knows what's happened on that very bed? To each his own, I suppose.

When I first got married the bed I had was one someone had given to me, and I ended up giving it to my sister to use for a while. The one my husband was using was a hand me down from a family member. Since then we bought a New set from JCPenney. I personally would never buy used as you do never know the History of it. If I ever update and buy one again it will be New due to I feel safer knowing it was new. You do never know the history behind a used mattress, so unless you have no other choice I would think new would be the safest way to go for sure.

No way would I ever. I would prefer to sleep on the floor and have. It isnt just what may have happened on the mattress but the skin and cooties we pass on to our mattresses. I feel that there are just some things we shouldn't recycle.

~~~~~~I'm really frightened by your words. Haunted? God, can't just believe that. Why do you have to buy a second-handed mattress? If I'm going to buy a mattress, I will surely buy a new one which feels soft and comfortable. Because bed is the one really matters to me, I have to buy a good one for myself because I have to lie on it when I'm tired, painful and with my lover. So why not buy a new one? You cost more, but you feel comfortable.
I'm not sure I would buy a second hand mattress, especially if I knew that adults were sleeping on it. There were a lot of things going on there. I think I'd rather have a brand new mattress if I had the choice.
Second hand mattress is like second hand clothes. I can't never buy it, someone already slept on it. It doesn't matter what it's history is, as long as it's already been used, I'll settle for a completely new one. Some might said to use Febreze or whatever to clean it, I still have the feeling of it's been used by someone else that I probably don't know.
I know with the economy these days we all are having trouble with paying for everything we need. But I know myself I have to buy a brand new mattress I to also get disgusted at the thought of someone owning it before I. I am also overly catious and germaphobe, you never know how a mattress already used was treated and how it was taken care of. I would rather buy a fresh one never used and not have any issues is the future that way I know exactly how its been taken care of and have no worries of any problems or germs. I would much rather pay alot of money for my own then have something someone else already used.
I like cheap and decent price mattress. When it comes to used or second hand bed mattresses, I will never buy them. They are weird and scary for me. I do not think that I can sleep well on them at all.
i wouldn't buy or use a used mattress for my bed. As you mentioned i just feel uncomfortable when i use such a mattress. i will imagin a lot just like you do. i won't sleep well every night and i will keep creating many stories which will make me afraid. Actually i haven't the reason to buy a second hand mattriess because in China when you get married the bed and mattress must be new.
your idea will help us a lot , it helps us remind that there are lots of possibilities of buying second hand things for bed which comes from dirty people or places. i have bought one, but i just bought white blanket and blanch it with a dis infectant.
