i read with amazement how some senators and parliament members laughed at Obama's policy on the National health insurance scheme and i wonder what sort of embarrassment is that to the president, if they don't want to do it they should rather keep quite instead of making mockery of the scheme

I am glad that so many who don't live in the US are so sure of how our government should be conducted, but we like to think that we have freedom of speech and I suppose that includes laughter at ridiculous proposals. He's not a king, we can laugh at him if we want to, we can even point out that he has no clothes.

It's a reference to the children's story "The Emperor's New Clothes". The emperor employs a tailor to make him the most exquisite new set of clothes, but the tailor having spent the money only pretends to make them, telling the emperor that only those with no wisdom and those unfit for their position cannot see this magical material. The emperor goes out in the crowd, "wearing" his new clothes which he is afraid to admit he cannot see because he does not want the tailor to know he can't see them. Most of the people go along with this, but some brave soul in the crowd is honest enough to yell out "the emperor has no clothes".

That os the U.S. political system. We hope that we get the best policies and laws because we there is significant dialogue and competing viewpoints before something is actually enacted. Don't worry about President Obama. To get to the place that he's gotten to, he's got pretty tough skin. The laughing is nothing personal. It's just politics as usual and I'd be quite wurprised if the President wasn't aware of that.

Somebody has to do something. In fact somebody should have done something about our health care mess a long, long time ago. I'm just thankful that we finally have a pres who is willing to take it on. They can laugh all they want but people like me will just drown their laughter out with our cheers.

I think that it is bad politics to laugh, if they didn't like it, then they have the right to say so, but to laugh is insulting and dismissive of the fact that there needs to be a change...I don't find ANYTHING funny about the current way health care is done, I don't know anyone in my life who isn't rich that does like it. They need to have some more class and be respectful.

From what I have read about it IMO to be able to afford it people are going to have to quit work and go on welfare. I sure don't want to see that. Are the Senate, Congress and their families going to be using the Obama National Health Disaster - not to mention him and his family.

Doesn't annoy me one bit, and that's the thing, so many against National Health Care say that people from countries with it hate it, but so far the majority of the people I have heard from who have it, like it...My brother's ex wife is from Canada and she loves it, and it is a very common thing for people who can't afford the price of medicine here, to buy it in Canada because it is so cheap, and smuggle it back. I thought about doing it for my inhalers, but I was too scared I would get caught .
