National Health Care vs Private Insurance

So, how will the new plan (if passed)affect current health plans put out by private companies. If the National Health Care is cheaper, because we are all paying for it out of our taxes, how many jobs will be lost to current Health Care providers because of the loss of business? How will this be good for our struggling economy? And if you are an insurance agent...and you lose your job, and there are no jobs open, where do you go to work??

As far as I know, if your employer currently provides health benefits you will have the option of keeping the plan you have or switching. Businesses get lower rates than individuals because they get group rates, and better deductables, so the government plan may not be better than what a covered employee already has. I don't understand why you think health care providers will lose business because actually the opposite will be true. I have an ex-sister-in-law who has used the ER as her doctor for years because she can't afford to go to a doctor's office without insurance. If she was covered she would have a regular doctor so that doctor would have increased business. As for insurance agents, the majority of their health & life coverage clients are businesses because most folks can't afford private insurance.

Oh, maybe I need to clarify, I don't know that they would lose jobs, just wondered if they would. Thank you for your comment, it was very informative!

I think that the plan will save the country a lot of money, right now health care is a trillion dollar business. We have THE most expensive health care in the world (and it isn't even close), but we only have the 31st best in the world. National health care would save the tax payers money by covering those that are the largest drain on our health care system (then uninsured). If you go to the hospital and havve insurane then you get a discounted rate, when they go it is full price. When they don't pay, they write it off of their taxes as a loss and then all of the taxpayers pay for it. I have not heard of the numbers of job losses, but this would be like the automotive industry, or the clothing industry. We live in a changing world, and if you can't adapt to that changing world, then I don't know what to say to you. This is what the global economy is all about. The economy will get better because people will have more money because the won't have to spend so much on health care. Republicans complain all the time about taxes, yet the have no problem paying huge amounts for medical coverage that makes huge corporations billions in profits. They hate to see government get big off with their money, but love to see corporations do the same thing with their money. Does this make sense?
