Unisex toilets?

There's something I have thought about for a while. Why don't we just have unisex toilets? Why does there always have to be a toilet for men and women? They will anyway be hidden in toilet stalls? It would be so much easier if we just had unisex toilets where everybody could be. I have also noticed that sometimes there is a long queue to the women toilet - but not for the men. That problem would be solved with unisex toilets. Why do you think it is separeted? Do you think we should have unisex toilets? Why? Why not?

I think having a bathroom for men and women separately doesn't do much justice for those who are not strait... we do have gays and transsexual after all... so while one person would go to bathroom and not feel like someone can be watching them and getting off on it, there are others who don't feel like seeing other's genitals hanging around the urinals... I knew one man who felt like he should've been a woman, not big deal right? happens all the time, but every time she would go to bathroom she would have to go to the bathroom for men and would sometimes get in trouble there, as there are way too many homophobes around...

Remember the TV show Ally McBeal? It had propagated the idea, which I was pretty sure that it learned from some real firms which were doing it. My company did it too, but then again, it was awkward. I felt like my female colleagues quickly finished up their business for the fear of being spied on. It was just not comfortable for the ladies, nor for the guys.

Hi there! It appeas to me a great idea and the authorities concerned about constructing toilets should give a practical shape to your idea, with some privacy and modifcations. If this happens, need for separate toilets for ladies and gents will disappear.

I would rather have the toilets as men and womens'.I am not in favour of unisex toilets. There are 2 main reasons why I say that. The first being hygiene. Men peeing while standing and women while sitting.Well, I would have huge issues using a restroom where guys have been. The very thought grosses me out. The other issue is the crimes that can occur. Too many things can go wrong in a unisex toilet.

A Men's washroom will have maybe 4 Urinals and 4 stalls..The Women's will have maybe just the 4 stalls! No wonder there's a line forming outside..I think most people would prefer to have separate facilities...there are guys who are shy standing at a urinal with someone else beside them, and so go use a stall instead..and Guys generally don't stand around in there chatting..in,job done, wash hands (Hopefully!) and out again..

Well, we have maniacs in this world. And peeping toms. What are we suppose to do with them? It's already difficult keeping them from peeping from outside of the bathroom, what more from the inside? How about if you think about it this way: your younger sister is in the bathroom with a mature man. Isn't that freaky?

I think things should stay as they are. We all need our privacy. If you create a unisex restroom, don't you thin the men would feel slighted because there would probably be no urinal? That's what helps with no lines to the men's room. They go, urinate, shake and their done (most of them anyway, some may actually wash their hands)! But as a woman, I think they really should stay the same. I need my privacy!

I do not see the problem with unisex toilets as long as all the toilets have cubicles this includes male urinals, because I would not want to walk into the toilet in a club and see a man going to the toilet right in front of me. I am not a prude as such, but some things should be kept private. I have noticed that women's toilets have more queues than men's toilets. It would also be better if you are going out as the only person from that gender, especially if you a male, because as a girl, I know that we go to the toilet in flocks and the guy can be left standing in a bar by himself while we all go off to the toilet.

Hi surfacesur, be careful of what you wish for. Unisex toilets existed in Tunisia twenty years ago in the tourist areas, I have no idea if it has changed at all. Basically you entered the room which had separate cubicles for men and women. But in addition there were urinals on open display. In the actual hotel there were separate facilities but usually a male attendant was permanently in the room with the ladies cubicles. The attendants everywhere handed out the loo roll. I found the whole thing rather unsetteling but they were kept pristinely clean.

I have problem with this cause uhmmm if women watching us in the street on in your bedroom I have no problem, but while we urinating? It seems gross and uncomfortable lol. Funny thing is I remember Ally McBeal series where they have this unisex toilet and many things can happened if u mix guys and women in a toilet :)

The only place where I saw unisex toilets was in the TV series Ally Mcbeal. It looks kinda cool but then I guess that some people, you know, boyfriend and girlfriends might do their thing inside.

I couldn't say... I mean, from my perspective I think that sharing a washroom with other males could potentially be a little bit embarrassing. I think it's safe to say that women generally feel safer and more comfortable doing their business with other women and the same goes for males.
