My child calls me "Mama". I have to modify it because she has hearing and speech problem. She is profound deaf and Mama is just one of the very few words that she can say. I was really crying when I heard her say Mama and I was hoping that everything will progress since she is now having her speech therapy.

That really must make you feel good that Mama is one of the few words that she can say. I bet you absolutely grin with pride every time she addresses you.

of course my daughter's first word was "dada"...it seems like its usually their first word, but then before she would even say "mama" she said "kitty"!!! I see where I rank!! haha! Just kidding! I am just so proud of her & so happy that she is in my life that it doesn't matter what order she said it in! But now its funny cuz now she only says mama when she wants me or she is upset...but then says dada all the time!! Like if she hears him come down the stairs or she hears him on the phone or even just whenever she is always saying dada! Its eally so cute!!! Her other new word now is car!! She hears them go by the house & she says car, even the garbage truck is car!! Very cute!!

Nice to respond topics discussion about being a mother. My son is only 1 year and 8 months old. He is like a parrot he will imitate every word that you say if he can't pronounce it he will say it with tone. I'm bless that I am a stay at home mother I saw every development from physical to language. He first call me "ammma" then now "mama" and sometimes he can say "mamey". He call his father "dada" and "dade". I can't explain my feeling, all I know is my happiness is enough and complete. Happy mylotting!

Both of my children first called me Mama, and both of them were calling me Mama before they were a year old. My first response both times, to call my own Mom and husband to tell them that the baby really knew who I was. Now that they are older, I am Mommy, and though it makes me happy to have such a special name, sometimes I think I'll go nuts because I hear it at least a million times a day.
