Does your cat seem to feel that they need all kinds of food available for mealtime? Mine is never happy with what he is being served. I usually end up having to give him cat treats just to stop him from meowing. If the food isnt incredibly fresh he doesnt seem to want it. Is your cat finicky? My guy seems healthy but I heard it can be a sign of illness.

well, we are trying to wean Pong off the chicken he was getting while he needed surgery. Right now the roomie has to HOLD his bowl before he'll eat from it - but at least its CAT food. however, he does sometimes eat it off the table top (still haven't gotten him back on the floor yet.) He will, however, sometimes help himself to the other cat's food from the floor if he feels like it. I think you need to stop feeding the treats so he stops expecting them, then maybe you can get him eating in a more normal fashion. Oh, and we are still less than 2 weeks post-surgery, so we think Pong is doing very well.

One of my cats is so picky about what he eats. When he was young he would only eat cat food with real pieces of fish in it. At the moment he has a fasination with those little tins of Gourmet food. He won't eat anything else. To make matters worse he has recently decided that he will only eat two of the flavours in the box. Luckily my other two aren't so picky so they eat the other flavours. But I just hope he doesn't get even more picky about his eating habits. He is a good size, active and healthy though.

My four cats eat canned food only and only at meal times. Two of them eat what they are given; the other two are more selective. I have a routine where I pick up the food after about 30 minutes and don't feed them again until the next meal time. They eat twice a day and have learned to eat what they are served and pay attention to it until it's done. I vary the flavors, but not the brand so much. They get a variety; some like one more than another, but will eat what they are given. They have learned that I can't spend all day at their food bowls with them.

I think I might try that. I am tired of listening him meow about food. it is really annoying at times.

It is very common to have a cat that is finicky with his food....I talk to many people in the Supermarket pet food aisle, who are also frustrated on what to give their cats, because they don't seem to like anything. I purchase all kids of different flavors for mine, so he never gets tired of the same ones, and then, I don't put alot in his dish, because I think it overwhelms him to have too much. I find he eats more of it, if I only give one or two teaspoons to him. I usually don't change his food until it's been in the dish for a couple of hours, because I want him to realize that he has to eat what I give him. He does love human food, and once in awhile we treat him with ours. As a cat gets older, I have heard that they get some sort of sickness that makes them want to eat all the time. I don't remember what it's called. But I have heard that all cats get it, and it is very common. However, I would rather see my cat always wanting to eat, instead of going without...because that is a sign of a sick cat, when they don't want to eat. They start loosing weight, and they have no appetite.
