What is the main reason you use gather? Are you most into earning points? Do you just like talking to people? Or are you into writing?

Like most people, I came for the points and stayed for the conversation. I have a book group, and I love reading (and writing) book reviews. On occasion, I post other types of articles, but mostly it's about books. I do writing on other sites, so I tend not to write as much on Gather. I do think it's a great social networking site. I have a group of people whose articles I enjoy reading. I also love the contests, although they don't do as many as when I first joined Gather. The best contest I won from Gather was when they had the book writing competition. They gave away prizes for people who would read and comment on the submissions, and I won $500 in Borders cards. Since then, I have been a loyal Gather fan. I don't earn gift cards there at the rate some folks do, but after winning a nice prize like that, they'll always have me around. Nowadays I read and comment more than I write.

Yeah I also came for the points and that is my primary reason for being there, but I do also genuinely enjoy the site. Some people put up junk, but other times there are really interesting articles- and about just about anything. Sometimes I just have fun writing a story about an experience of mine. There is just something fun about telling it so someone who doesn't know, so it's like its' own little story separate from the rest of my life.

Thanks for the pencil! The best thing about Gather, I think, is that you really can write anything you want. I have to be careful because I have my real name on there. Some old friends from college have looked me up on the site, as well. Most of the writing I do for other sites like Helium and Associated Content is more serious, so I enjoy the light heartedness of it. Do you write for other sites as well?
