I have had apt. insurance for a very long time, as long as I have lived on my own. I purchased apt. insurance, assuming that if there was ever a fire in the house, I would be compensated. Well, the other night, I spilled grease on my stove, and to stop it from going on fire, I picked up the pan, and ran to the sink with it; On the way, I spilled some of the greese on the floor, and by mistake put the pan on my bucher block counter top. Unfortunately, it burned a whole in the counter top, and stripped the was right off my floor, and it now has a permanent mark on it. Is it worth it for me to call my insurance company. Because the flooring is part of the building, and the counter top is part of the building, they are not my personal belongings, does apt. insurance cover that...or would I have to get my landlord to call her home insurance to compensate her to replace them.

Our rental insurance only covers personal belongings. The counter and floor are part of the building. You would be wise to tell the management but I am guessing that you will have lot your rental deposit.
